TPM is it illegal to remove
I searched the forum and could not find an answer.
I bought new rims and winter Blizzak tires on Tire Rack.com. I did not have TPM sensors installed in the rims. I like the new rims better than the stock rims on my 06 SC430. So I want to have the tires and rims switched but I don’t want sensors put in the new rims. My plan is to have my wife drive the car to the dealership and I’d follow with the truck with the other 4-rims/tires.
Is it illegal for a dealer to mount/balance tires/rims without sensors if a vehicle has a TPM device in it?
Thanks

No, it's perfectly legal. What you'll want to do is disable the system. Basically, you just have to unplug it. There's directions in the first thread in this forum. It's very easy to do. If you don't disable it, you'll get a warning light and a beeping sound every 30 seconds or so.

As suggested above, disable it otherwise you will be annoyed. There's a good post on this DIY. In my case I went the extra step in covering the indicator bulb on TPMS hence I do not see the light.
Tirerack recommends installers right?

While it may not be "illegal" where criminal liability for disconnection would attach. It certainly is not wise to disconnect a motor vehicle safety system required by the Federal Government on vehicles manufactured (20%) beginning in 2006 and all vehicle (100%) in 2008 and beyond. If you were involved in a collision, with a tire failure component related to low pressure, and someone discovered you purposely disconnected a required TPMS device, there's a good chance some attorney is going to have his or her way with you...if you get my drift.
Here's some info for you to read: TPMS and the TREAD Act of 2000
The California Assembly had a bill making it illegal to disconnect TPMS devices, but it died in committee after heavy lobbying by tire manufacturers. You should check the laws of your state.
