Hello All,

I recently purchased a 2008 SC430 Pebble Beach and have always changed my own oil and filter. Can anyone advise the best jack points, filter number, and any other oil change tips.

I use ramps when I change my oil. My driveway is slopped so that when I put the front wheels on the ramps, the car is level. The filter is a Toyota 90915-YZZD3 and the gasket for the oil plug is Toyota part number 90430-12031. There is a plastic cover under the engine bay that needs to come off. There are lots of screws holding it on and many screw back into plastic. You will need to be careful and not strip them out. Toyota sells an inexpensive tool that fits over the end of the filter to unscrew it. The torque on the oil plug is 29 foot pounds. A nice feature is you can set your navigation screen to tell you when to change your oil and to complete other maintenance tasks at schedules you set up.

i recommend ramps too, i use the rhino ramps which are plastic.
you do not have to take the entire plastic cover off. The filter is located on the driver side of the engine and you only need to take a few screws out to get your hand up in there to remove the filter.

What oil are you using> The dealer uses Castrol semi synthetic, 5w-30.

I thought I would use MObil 1 full synthetic. They have some good deals for oil and a Mobil 1 filter. The Mobil 1 filter looks like a quality product.

Hi Bad,

I know that a lot of folks here will not agree with me but I use Valvoline 10-30 oil & Fram TG3614 filters. I've been using Valvoline & Fram for so long I cannot remember when I started using that combo.

Actually Jerry I do agree with you on the oil, there's no need for synthetic oil with the SC430 motor, so long as you are diligent with/about changes.

agree on the mobile 1 combo synthetic deal. the purolator pure 1 and bosch distance plus are also great filters for longer drain interval. Synthetic media filters are usually 99.9% efficient and reduce engine wear compared to a fram which are 94 to 96% efficient.

I would not use any filter on my Lexus but a Toyota OEM filter or a Wix filter. The "major brand" filters sold in Walmart and Target etc are pretty much over hyped junk....even their supposed premium style filters...beware.

toyota does not make oil filters, they are made by companies like bosch and purolator. check out bobistheoilguy.com where they cut open oil filters to reveal what's inside.

Sorry Boys! Gotta disagree with dyno oil.

Amsoil 0W-30 once a year. Drop the driver side of the plastic under the oil pan. Not the whole thing. No need to. Bend it back to access to the filter. Done!

See ya next year for an oil change instead of laying on the garage floor every three months...... 17,500 miles Amsoil interval.

0W-30 means oil as thin as water when you need it (start-up) and 30W when it warms up....

By the time I run the math I can't do it any cheaper regardless of which method I choose if I do it myself. Do the math.....

I do mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 every 10k miles or one year with Toyota oil filter.

Lets not start a BITOG discussion here as oil is quite often a personal preference!

Use whatever the Owners manual recommends in terms of viscosity, use a quality oil and use a quality filter.

BTW. Denso make the OEM filters for Lexus and make a great aftermarket filter.

Anyone have a pic of the cover underneath that needs to be removed? I haven't been under my (new to me) 430 yet but plan to change my own oil. Anyone know if a video of the procedure exists anywhere? Seeing is worth a thousand words!

Why would anybody change their own oil?
By the time you go purchase supplies, use your labor, clean up and then drop off the used oil & filter for recycling it's cheaper to go to a quick lube.

I was going to show my son how to change the oil in his truck. It's lifted so the expense of ramps wasn't needed. When it was all said and done it was $5.00 more at a quick lube with no mess. Took the supplies back and told him to take it to the shop.
