Which Maintenance to Perform on 130K+ SC430
Hello friends,
A few months ago I purchased a 130K+ 2002 SC430. I am having some service completed soon and want to get done as many inexpensive maintenance items as I can done by an independent mechanic.
Items already on the list: Engine belt (completed), Timing Belt with Pump (completed), Engine Air Filter (completed), New Battery (completed), Brakes (completed), shocks/struts (about to get done), spark plugs (about to get done), and Oil Change (full synthetic).
I plan to drive this car until 200K miles or preferably longer if it lasts. The car was dealer maintained until 120K (I have full history on hand).
I am considering the brake fluid (I'm not sure on the cost), and I would like your input on the other items. This car is a year-round daily driver.
Thank you

Cabin filter
Throttle body cleaning
Depending on existing history:
brake fluid FLUSH
Transmission fluid replacement
Power steering fluid replacement
If you are going to take it to a dealer, I would ask for there 120 point inspection but not mention any of the work yov've already done. They'll go over the car but specifically I'd want a report on the motor mounts (an issue with some 02's) suspension bushings, and the complete exhaust system depending on where your car has lived.
After getting there report you'll learn at least two things... One what the Lexus experts think about your car, that is issues they find....and two...the integrity of the people inspecting your car, because you know what work has already been done.

Thanks, VVTiBob. I am planning on having a non-Lexus independent mechanic do the work so unfortunately the 120 point inspection is 'out of scope', so to speak
I called a Lexus dealer and got some pricing on the parts:
Brake Fluid ($11.39, they said I need two of them)
Automatic Transmition Fluid ($6, they said I need four of them)
Power Steering Fluid - Not sold directly dealer said, they said to get "dot three", whatever that means
For parts and labor (at the dealer ,where I will not be getting it done), they quoted me the following:
Steering fluid (drain and fill), $135
Brake fluid (drain and fill), $135
Transmission fluid and differential (not sure what the difference is), $129

The diff will take about 1.3litre, I use Amsoil 75w-90 gear oil.
Make sure its a complete flush not just a drain and refill of the transmission fluid.
A proper flush will use a good 12 - 16 litres of Toyota type IV. There is alot of fluid in the torque converter, so you need to flush this out.
Some people just drain and fill which is only replaces about 3 litres of a possible 10 litres (don't quote me on this though) of transmission fluid.
Imagine taking a bath and the water gets dirty from you pissing and farting in the bath water. Would you replace 1/4 of the bath water or replace as much of the bath water you can?
Power steering fluid is a dextron III fluid.
