Default key programming

I have a remote transponder that works on my car. If I order a shell from Sewell (and they cut the key), then all I have left to do is program for the key (not the transponder) using the ignition/door coding actions that are listed on this forum, right?

I'm confused because somewhere I read that if you have a working remote that you don't have to program for the new key. But that doesn't sound right to me.

Can anyone confirm if I have to program the key once it arrives from Sewell and I put in my working remote?

Thanks,

kelly

If you have a transponder that currently works, all you have to do is pop it out, new/fresh battery recommended as well and put in the new shell and cut key you got from Sewell. I have a thread I'm about to finish regarding all of this that will hopefully be helpful because this can get tricky and $$$$$ too!

BTW, I have a copy of the programming steps for our SC. Directly came from the dealership. I actually did the programming of a freshly cut valet key from Lexus, using these steps. So it works.

Thanks droptop. That makes it easy. This is a transponder that I found under the seat (sans key/shell) after I bought the car in June. It needed a new battery and then all the functions worked. Nice to hear all I need do now is pop it into a new shell with the key cut for the ignition.

Mandyfig: Are the instructions for programming the key (not the remote) that you have the same as the ignition and door sequences that have been printed in this forum?

Maybe. But it is a series of door openings, whether they are identical, I can not comment without comparing the 2.
