Reprogramming a key from the GS for the SC
Hello,
I am a new SC430 owner. I received the car with one functional "master key" (with the remote built in) and a piece of the second master key... just the metal part (the rest broke off, apparently).
I have a working key from a 2002 GS which looks identical. Would I be able to put the metal piece from the broken SC key into the shell of the GS key (with the built-in remote) and reprogram the remote for my SC?
I have seen instructions on this forum on how to program keys, but I am wondering if I can reprogram the remote part of this key for my SC.
Thank you for any input

With only one master key you better not loose or damage it. If you do, you have to buy and program a brand new ECU and its gets very expensive. On the metal part you still have I doubt the key would survive the torque on the twisting action when starting the car. And, with a transponder. If I were you, I try following the posted reprogramming instruction with the GS key and see if it works. If it does, buy a new key case, have the key cut to your VIN and transfer the transponder to it. But I wouldn't wait to long to get a second working master key, or vallet key or wallet key...

VVTiBob, thanks for your informative post. You have just managed to help me re-prioritize my car-related tasks
I did not know/realise that I would need a new ECU in the event I lose the only functioning key I have. I will get moving on this.

I called my a Lexus dealer and asked about programming a GS key for an SC, they said that before I even start on this effort I should see if the FCC ID number on the back of the remotes match. If it does not, the dealer said the key will not be able to talk to the car.
I'm not convinced he's telling the truth (clearly they want to sell me a $230 key), but I guess he has a good point.
Does anyone have any insight into how much the remotes are interchangeable?
