Recovered Steering Wheel
The steering wheel in my car had leather that was worn badly and also had a crack in it (have no idea how it got there!!!).
So bought a steering wheel off of Ebay and had it sent to be recovered in Alcantara. Expensive (about $350) but factory quality work and feels better than leather!

I'm curious as to why you'd be scared.
Autobody shops do it everyday.
Jerry Baumchen
PS) IMO the guy working in the autobody shop is no better or worse than who ever did this wheel.

Because it's life or death.
When it came from the factory, they have qualitiy controls and install them 24/7. 500 times per day; 2500 times per week.
As far as Joe at the auto body shop, this may be the first SC430 he ever worked on. With such a low-volume car, he certainly hasn't done many. You won't know whether he did it correctly until it is too late.

Just disconnect battery and you're good to go.
The only crappy thing is that you sometimes get a code thrown.
Maybe the folks on this site don't do this kind of thing much hence the lack of interest on the comments of this re-cover.
But many folks on the BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche forum recover their wheels often and do the install themselves. I've personally never seen an instant where the airbag has deployed unintentionally.
What I was hoping for was more interest about the Alcantara recover. This material is currently the "it" material on Porsche's and used heavily in racing applications. It's basically got all the qualities of natural suede without the downfalls.

Removing and replacing the air bag is no brainier. It just unplug and plug. Easy stuff, as long you dont do deep dive in the air bag structure. Just dont ever cut the yellow wire in the car.
