Default Gen 5 10.1 Nav Disc DOES work on Gen4

Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to use a Gen5 10.1 nav disc on a Gen4 player without any issues.. There wasnt any difference or improvements from what I can tell.

So you just basically inserted a GEN 5 V10.1 on your GEN 4 and it worked?

A chart showing the newest DVD list for each NAV ECU generation can be found here: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/data/nav2010cy.php

I ask this question thinking I know the answer, but...

When I get new loaners from Lexus, the Nav displays are so much clearer than my '06 with my upgraded (9) disc.

Is this because of the newer dvd player, higher quality screen or ?

Thanks and no snickers please

Well assuming the loaned you a 2010 or 2011 lexus the answer to your questions are:
New and improved NAV system, newer screen (although I don't think the resolution of the display has ever been posted, just its diagonal measurement)

Its because your seeing Gen 5 and 6, i have 10.1 maps on both my Gen 4 SC430 and my Gen 5 IS250 and the Gen 5 is far superior as far as graphics go. However when it comes to functionality its the same. Although the Gen 6 has live traffic updates so this feature makes it far better than both Gen 4 and 5. If im not mistaken the 2010 SC430 skipped over from Gen4 to Gen6 and there was never a Gen 5. Im wondering if we can upgrade to Gen6...im sure its possilbe however it wouldnt be plug and play sine i know the wiring on Gen 4 and Gen 5 are different so im assuming Gen 5 and 6 are similar.

Quick question Bro, so you say that the Gen 5 Map Disc worked with your Gen 4 whip? Did the display change any from how it use to look as far as the map display? You know the 2007 display maps are more sharp and cleaner than the Gen 4 Map displays.

From what I have heard from talking to lexus new tech consultant at the dealership I go to. I was told that using a gen higher disk from the gen your car should have can be Russian roulette. It can make your navigation trash .

Its not like that. You can do what ever you want. I would suggest going to a dealership your self and ask there tech people . Dont take my word for it. If a disk gen 5 works in gen 4 great. I would not risk it myself
