OMG what a terrible mistake that editor made and NY Times didn't even validate it? That's a pretty obvious mistake...even us CL members knew that the tape deck was gone in 2010!!! Heck, I posted a 2010 back in 2009 (matador red mica) that I saw in the mall and we talked about it like Sept 2010...bad mistake!

I hear it a lot from folks that criticize "the press" for not checking the facts thoroughly but usually it's political and subject to debate. But, not only did the NYT get it wrong but so many others just picked up on the NYT article and added their own twist to the story and round-n-round it went. It must be true 'cause it was in the newspaper and I read it on the 'net! At least ClubLexus didn't run an article saying so (yet? ).

Maybe, just maybe, somewhere in the world Lexus was putting still using the cassette in 2010. Maybe Australia or japan? And that would make the story valid. But what about Tata Motors in India or the Russian Lada?

Ahhhhhhh pish tosh...NYT should have got it right, should have done their due diligence. I bet if we searched really hard we could find another 2010 car in the US that has a tape player too. Chevy cargo van? Something. Bottom line is that details are not what they once were.

I really don't care if it's accurate or not. I kinda like the distinction of 'claim to fame' from the OP. Now I got something to brag to family and friends.

Personall, I will miss cassette players. I have many tapes of mixed music that I will listen to forever. I guess I could learn to put that music on cd's but there is something about casettes that is cool. I guess it takes me back to my cool days. I dunno....I'm gonna miss them. Since I plan to keep my current cars a long time I guess I won't miss them.
