Default Spare Tire For the SC 430

So I know that the Supra TT Spare will fit and the Mazda Rx8 spare should work fine but when I searched Car-Parts.com they gave me a long list of spares that interchange with the Supra TT Spare...

'07-'09 Camry, '06-'07 ES350, '02 IS300

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge if these will work?

I have to believe any of these spares would be cheaper and easier to find than a Supra TT Spare.

I bought a new '07-'09 Camry spare tire on ebay for $70 shipped about 4 months ago. Size was 125/70 R17 I believe. Fits well. I haven't had an event to use it, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

GL with your search.

I bought a camry donut spare.
my tire company matched it to the 430,
looked it up and found a new one in a car parts yard.
about $100 or so, delivered.

check out this compatibility list (but double check everything on our own to be sure):

Another member said that the Camry spare clears the brakes and fits in the well with the cover on it no problem.

"Fix-a-Flat" is another solution, but my tire guy can't stand the stuff. Incidently, I also carry an electric compressor in my trunk at all times too. It's interesting how a simple issue such as no spare tire can make a grown man so paranoid...I'm speaking of myself of course.

Default Fixing flat

I keep imagining myself on a lonely dark road under my car trying to fix a flat with a plug. Trying to find the hole etc. I got a spare.

Try to stay with Toyota/Lexus spart tires.
The IS350 spare tire is a good choice if you can find a cheap one for sale.

You guys can't just look at the bolt pattern size and call it a day.
Although bolt pattern sizes (5x114.3) are the same, the Wheel Hub Bore Sizes (60.1mm for Lexus, 67.1mm for Mazda, 66.1mm for Nissan) are completely different.
You also need hub centric rings in order to run Mazda/Nissan spare tires correctly.

RX-8 is a great solution. Purchased off e-bay. Light weight and comes with a cover....and a bunch of mtg. hardware for the Mazda which I discarded, however, others have been able to sell the hardware.

I purchased a Goodyear space saver spare from tire rack and a Toyota Supra TT spare wheel from Toyota parts Barn in Ohio. Everything fits perfect.
I just wish the spare sat better int he wheel well when I place it in the trunk on long trips. The back wall of the trunk has a bulge which pushes the tire slightly forward. It still fits with the top down by a hair. I mean, just barely!
I use bungy cords to keep it down.
I am sure that bulge is gone if you buy the spare tire kit and that back wall part is removed and replaced with one that does not have a bulge.

Default Spare Tire Quandry - Run Flats

I currently have run flats on my 2006 SC430 but am contemplating on removing them for conventional high performance tires. The ride is rough! I've found the spare tire kit OEM for $750 online. I think what most people don't fully think through with the spare tire kit is this: If your traveling let's say with another person and you both have two overnight bags in the back seat and you get a flat tire. You can put the spare on without a problem, but where do you put the wheel with the flat tire? My thought is to buy a compressor and tire patch kit vs. the spare. If you get a blow-out you simply need to be towed. I also have AAA for free 100 mile towing. All replies and comments would be appreciated as to how people are driving their cars with conventional tires.

The blown out tire can be placed in the trunk on top of some trash bags to protect the carpeting from a dirty tire.

I just changed over from the run flats to conventional.

I bought a 2002 SC430 a few months ago from a guy who replaced his run-flat tires in 2007. His strategy was just to run naked – i.e., no spare. This strategy worked for him until the month before I bought the car – he got a nail near the sidewall of one of the rear tires and it was replaced under the tire dealer’s lifetime road hazard warranty. Now I have one corner with 1/32 more rubber on it than the others. I can live with that. Going forward, since this is essentially an extra car, I may do what my predecessor did except that regrettably the lifetime tire warranty wasn’t transferrable. Although flats never happen at a convenient time or place, I still think my odds of avoiding a tire incident are pretty good. In the past 20 years of driving – probably somewhere around 300,000 miles – I have had exactly one tire problem. All that said, if a total bargain spare presents itself I may go for it though.

My spare tire solution was to shop around at a few Lexus dealers and ended up getting the donut at one place and the rim at another at considerable savings. Ture, I don't have the whole kit which includes a cover, but it is in the trunk after all so what does it matter how it looks?
