Default How much for a 2002 sc430

I am looking at a 2002 sc430 with 42000 miles. The car has baseball glove color interior which I have not seen before. Looks nice.the question is he has 20 inch rims with low profile tires and I don't really know if I like this look. I have not driven it yet but was wondering if anyone knows how thiese rims will handle and the comfort of the ride with low profile tires .Also what is a fair price for the car he is asking 23000. Thanks Jim

It's worth what someone is willing pay. Do your due diligence on carmax and autotrader for your area. But seems a few thousand high to me.

Hi VVTiBob,

Re: It's worth what someone is willing pay.

This is the complete truth. Last summer a white '02 w/21,000 miles, original owner & he said it was perfect, sold to the first looker for $30,000, here in Oregon.

Wise words...value is in the eye of the beholder for sure!

For some blanket numbers...You can expect an extremely low mileage 2002 in excellent condition to go for as high as $23-$25k retail. Individuals should be less, although I sold my 2002 with 29k miles on it (red on ecru-tan) last August for $24,500. I would expect this years price on mine to be about $22k probably using straight line depreciation.

On ANY eight year old car, I would want to have the entire service history on the vehicle and it better be meticulous for that price. I would expect to have all the keys, manuals, tool kit, first aid kit floor mats, etc etc for a premium price. If the car has had paint work or an accident or needs anything from parts to required maintenance not done (on an older car it's the months not mileage you follow with low miles) 96 month service etc then you can also back out some money.

I looked at a fellow CL'ers 2002 black on ecru today at a local dealer they were asking $23k for it and the car had a couple of accidents was VERY clean with new nice upgraded wheels and tires. Interior was perfect. It was traded in for high teens and the dealer is trying to make about $6k profit on the car!!!! High end retail...buy low and sell high!

For your car you are looking at, if it is an individual...no wrecks all goodies, great service history I would offer them $21k and start there.

Your 20" wheels will change the way the car looks by 300% and the drive will be much better, trust me. Most SC430 owners make this their first modification on their car! Some 20" wheel/tire combinations may be a little harsh on potholes and if you live up north where it's frozen over half the year you may want to consider a softer ride and a "winter" set of wheels and tires. Especially if you have sand/salt on the road. Not good for chrome! There are pros and cons to the 20" wheel/tire but I would be that most people say the pros outweigh the cons. Also with a low profile tire/wheel setup if the car sits for a long time (weekend driver syndrome) then you may get dead spots in the tires more than most OEM tires.
