Angry Black Onyx has NO clear coat?/Dealer destroyed my paint

According to my dealership and Lexus customer care, the Black Onyx on the SC430 does not have a clear coat applied to it. Does anyone have hard information that says otherwise?

I need to know because my dealership must have washed mine with a brillo pad, because it now has deep swirl marks all throuout the paint job. Now I just have to figure out how to get this resolved.

They tried detailing the car, but just made it worse. I was going to try Zaino Z5, but I am going to let them fix it instead. Beside, I think the swirls are too deep to remove by hand.

Any ideas on how I should approach this with my dealer? It seems obvious that they are going to tell me that swirls are just a part of having a black car. I meet with them this afternoon. Wish me luck.

This link from the FAQ indicates (after much back and forth) that the Black SC paint is in fact clear coated:

M Y - I've had very good luck with the complete line of ZAINO Finish Products, especially for the Swirls and light abrasions that dirty Wash Mits or DIrty Towels used in drying the car can have.
Check out their Web Site for a complete review of their Products and Performance Stories, you'll be very pleasantly suprised!

My Black Onynx is also Clear Coated, as I discovered in talking to Lexus Customer Care, and the Local Body Shop that handles all of the Painting / Refinishing needs of the local Indianapolis Lexus Dealership.

If your Selling /Servicing Dealer is unable to resolve these issues to your satisfaction, your have every right to call for a Factory Zone Representative to personally investigate these matters.

Good Luck!

WJSOLOMON,

Thanks for the tip on the factory zone rep, I will keep that in mind. They have my car right now. They said they will wax it again tomorrow, using a mechanical orbitor. This scares me for sure, if there is a clear coat, they will probably take it clean off. I should have just taken care of it myself with Z5.

I have used the complete line of Zaino car care products on my 2000 Vette, but never needed the Z5. I agree it's a great product line.

One thing for sure, this will be my first and last black car. And if they don't get this right, it will be my first and last Lexus.

M P - Your situation is far from hopeless, as this IS a LEXUS, and if not the Dealership, the Zone Rep will be LEXUS people fighting to satisfy you in their Product, as opposed to GM / Chevy.

Your issue of the possibility that the Dealer has caused the removal of the Clear Coat begs the Question: How does one know when that has happened? If not one of the LEXUS Owners herein, require the Zone Rep to substantiate that fact for you, and insist that your SC be re-Clear Coated by a qualified Paint Specialist, if need be.

You may have to go to the length of getting an Independant Qualified Paint Specialist apart from your Selling / Servicing Dealer to substantiate that fact, prior to pressing that point to the Zone Rep / Selling Dealer, but that's relatively easy to get in writing.

You're dealing with Quality people, promoting a Quality Automobile. Give 'em a chance to prove it.

If everything goes "South" - take 'em to "Judge Judy" on the "People's Court: Real Cases - Real People!"

i had baad swirls for a time with my black 93 SC 400
some how they got all over the car
it took me ages to get them reduced...but they are still there

depending on how deep they actualy are
i would say take to go get buffed really good
then try some of the swirl removeres with a buffer...

it just doesnt work as well with ur own hands
its like the eagle one commercial where your hand moves in circles no matter what your doing cause youve spent hours waxing your car...hahaha.
good sales slogan hehe
