C5 to SC430: Are you happy?
Like me, it appears there are quite a few people here who moved from a Corvette (current generation is C5 for those who don't know) to an SC430. Just curious what your thoughts are. Are you glad you made the switch?
I miss:
o Rowing through the six speed
o Heads Up Display
o 350+ HP
o 0.95 g - That's what makes driving fun!
o Beautiful yellow paint that didn't show dust
I do NOT miss:
o Chevy service
o HUD breaking (twice)
o Other numerous quality issues
o Noisy transmission/ride
o "White Trash" prejudice by some people for owners of these
o Kids in souped up (aka, si Sticker) Civic LX trying to race me. Puleeeez!
o Chevy service!

HAD a 2000 C5
The 100% reason why I no longer own a C5 is the Chevy service. They almost go out of their way to make it difficult for you. I took my car in for an oil change and found 3 extra miles on the car. They said they had to take it for a "road test".
I love the quality of the SC 430. A year has gone by of owning it already and it has been absolutely painless, repair-wise. I brought the Corvette in for repairs 3 times in the one year I had it, and got upset every single time.

I pretty much agree with you guys. The C5 was a great car to drive. And, with runflats on both cars, I think the C5 had a better ride. But I had similar service problems - 44 days of service in the first 5 months before I Lemon Law'ed it.

Another C5 owner
Here's a copy of my post from another thread.
I am in the process of obtaining a SC430 and will be trading my 2K1 convertible C5. Since I don't have the SC yet, I cannot offer first-hand opinions. Instead I'll give my reasons for switching.
1. The two year itch: I get it every two years, no matter what car I own. Sometimes sooner.
2. I miss Lexus: I bought a 2000 GS4 and kept it for a year, but decided I needed a convertible. The quality interior, and dealer service are the main things I missed.
3. Retractable Hardtop: Self explanatory. Actually, for me, this has more value than most. In the Corvette, I liked the Navy the best, but I didn't like how it looked with the top up. Black or Tan top...neither worked for me. With the hardtop, this concern does not exist. (I'm getting Indigo/Ecru, btw)
4. California Bay Area roads: There's just no practical application of all the performance of the C5 on public roads. The car demands to be driven 140+, but that's simply not a realistic option 99.8% of the time. Might as well get value in the most frequently used criteria.
