Question Side View Mirrors

Do the side view mirrors fold up? I would like to get more room when putting it in the garage.

According to the manual they do, although I never have tried it.

Just give 'em a push towards the rear of the car. They move in.

"Give 'em a push"?!?!?!?!?!?

Perlease!

Guys, there's a button to fold them in automatically.

Just above the mirror ajustment toggle switch.

Surely you didn't think Lexus would forget that!

Martin

P.S. I just had a terrible thought: I'm in the UK - suppose they don't put the automatic mirrors in the US versions. Naaah.... they must do!

Sorry to report no such switch in the US version. However, there is a switch for the headlight washers. Do you have this in the UK?

How interesting...

No - I had to have washers fitted as an after-market extra.

I wonder why these different decisions get made....

An edited after-thought here... my car is a privately imported Soarer from Japan, so I don't actually know what the standard UK Lexus models have in the way of washers/wind-mirror automation etc.

Like I said Brit......give em' a push. We in the colonies do not have the "fold up" button.

Default hmmm

I'm wondering if the folding in outside rear view mirrors are a european thing ... (because of all the really tight parking in many areas of european towns etc.)..

...BECAUSE I also was made aware of Japanese Primera (Nissan like the G20 Infiniti here in the USA) also has electric folding outside rear-view mirrors.. but our LUX G20's do NOT..

...and I've heard this about other cars in Europe having this feature while I've yet to hear of ANY US car that has this option.

...Also, don't US SPec SC430's come with different suspension than the european spec ones?

If the parking is so tight that you have to fold in the mirrors, how do you open the doors?

In old, over-crowded cities like London, you get very narrow streets made narrower by cars parked on each side (almost no-one has a garage).

It is incredibly common to see the mirrors of parked cars smashed off by trucks and other cars squeezing past each other.

I use my retractable mirrors all the time - not just when parking but when squeezing past other cars on the move. I never leave it parked anywhere without hitting that little button before I get out.

It's an amazingly useful function for those of us not blessed with the wide open spaces of the USA.

All the best,

Martin

P.S. and I'm sure the term 'Brit' wasn't meant to sound rude, was it?

Martin,

Not at all ! Sorry if I offended you. I have a good friend in England and for years we've referred to each other as "Brit" and "Yank".

These are terms I associate with friendship.
We also tease each other about the Mother Country and the Colonies.

Phew!

That's what I thought... but for a minute there I had a flicker of doubt.

Sorry for being over-sensitive!

All the best,

Martin.

yes I beleive that the fold in mirrors are a standerd in all european cars, I have a house in Nice France and let me tell you, you'll need every inch of space to drive through town, and even a 3 series BMW was a pain in the A$$ to drive around there
