Will XM/Sirius be Extinct? iPhone Apps---Slacker, Pandora, ETC
I've been a XM/Sirius subscriber since they started. I've had it at home for years as well on our direct tv. My last two personal cars did not have it, however but my company car (GM product) has always had it for the past five years or so.
With the SWEET iPhone apps like Slacker Radio, Pandora, AOL Rado, etc I am MUCH MUCH more happy just plugging in the iPhone to the aux jack in my 2009 FX35 and jamming out for free, while my company car's shuffle of music on XM seems like just an expanded version (and commercial free) of syndication based on certain categories. Don't get me wrong, if you want it for the sports, talk radio and variety at your fingertips and have $10/month to just **** away it's not bad...BUT...
My counterpoint is why do it? I honestly could live with the aux jack in my 2005 SC and have the internet radio on my iPhone with Slacker, Pandora, etc and just jam forever free!
Just my observation of where the internet radio vs satellite radio road is heading. I can see why Sirius and XM merged...the internet radio apps on the iPhone must be killing them! Plus no stupid antenna needed for that!
Only problem is, as our SC's age and the iPhones keep changing will we stay compatible? Just some thoughts...
I have this sweet Bose docking station that sounds better than the ML system in the SC on my desk right now jamming out to Slacker Radio. Very cool apps. wow...

Like anything else, you get used to listening to your favorite stations and pretty much stick with those. Even when I had Sirius and all the stations it offered, I typically only listened to 3 or 4 with regularity. But I DID enjoy those stations and so I enjoyed having Sirius. I don't have it now with my SC.
Would I like to have it? Sure, but not enough to go to the expense and trouble of getting it. I can still listen to my favorite Sirius stations on DirectTV at home, if I wish. In the meantime, I'll try to get by with the 11,000 songs on my iPod. We're so spoiled these days.
