Default Choices, Choices...2005 PB Edition CPO 36k for $31kish or 06 white/camel 51k for $29k

You all have seen my first find recently...I will post the stats below for comparison.

I have recently been in a holding pattern since mid last week due to no communication with the OK dealer (come to find out they were out of town) so my eyes were wandering and found a PLAN B to my SC search!

Please let me know your thoughts...

Plan A
2006 White/Camel
51k miles
$29,500
Car Fax and all maint records on hand, all keys/books too!
***might be able to buy Lexus Platinum Warranty for $1850***
30k done
brakes, battery done
Leather is PERFECT, car still smells new inside
One owner, Lexus serviced in CA
Front bumper/hood paint touch up for rock chips
OK Cadillac dealer with good reputation
No issues
I saw/drove the car in person, it pulled to the right dealer says it needs an alignment so I told them to fix it before I buy it and certify that is the problem

Plan B
2005 Pebble Beach Edition (Black on Red)
CPO Car from California Lexus Dealer---3 years, 100k warranty included
36k miles
$31k is what they want, I offered $29k, we hope to settle at $30k
All maint records, all keys/books, both sets of red/black mats
Have not seen or driven the car, but pictures look GREAT
Dealer looked at seats and front of car and told me there were no chips and the leather was like new--Of course they all will say this, right?
Tires and brakes at 70-80%, but I would take off the wheels anyway.

I'd appreciate your input. Any PB or special edition/rare votes would be appreciated too. I don't know how the red interiors fade/wear over time.

A good friend of mine that has worked for Sewell Lexus for 20 years since they opened said the PB Editions don't fetch as much money as the regular colors but have a cult following and could see them someday being worth a TON of money, but right now the market is soft. It's a long term investment on them. Tougher to resell than a standard black or white car with that bright PIMENTO RED interior screaming at you! Red is my favorite color (hence the manhunt for the absolutely red/ecru car that is ending sadly) so I am in luck! I wonder if I would get tired of the red interior?

On one hand, the 2006 is appealing because I haven't owned a 2nd Gen SC yet. On the other hand, I actually like the PB Edition colors a lot and black is a more masculine color than white on camel IMHO...but does the red interior trump any "manliness" ?? lol

The 2006 gives you a better nav system and the manumatic, but now that I know how to use the c-gate manual on the 2002-2005, I am not that much more concerned. At least the 2005 has bluetooth unlike my 2002.

The Pebble Beach has 15k LESS MILES, which at the rate that I drive would be about 5 years worth of driving. I cannot see the PB edition or drive it because it is in CA, so I am taking a leap of faith. Good thing is that it is already a CPO car, so I am covered. The white 2006 could be put under the Lexus Platinum Warranty under exception (perhaps, maybe) according to my buddy at the dealership. It would cost me about $1800-$2k for the 3 year 100k warranty, plus my wheels/tires, which puts the REAL cost of the white 2006 at about $34k. The PB Edition just needs wheels/tires, which are about $2k, so the REAL COST of that one is about $33k, plus shipping the car to me which is about $500-$700, and that is all contingent on the dealer selling it to me for $30k, remember they said $31k was their best price. Let's see...

i understand why you like the pb but at the end of the day the 06 is a newer car, plus you have the newer lights, tranny, dash....... Also are you planning on keeping the pb in mint condition and then trying to sell for a profit? If not just get the car that u personally like the most and enjoy it!

Go for the 06, one I think you'll get tired of the red interior, two, the 06 has the new features that enhance it's retail value when you trade. Good luck with your decision!

I too vote for the 06. The white is "so" much easier to keep clean and enjoy. We have a white SC 04 and a 07 ES black. The SC is so much easier on keeping it looking nice.
You can always just hose off the white ones and they look good, but the black ones need so much more loving care to look nice. Hope this helps in your choice. Keep us posted.

Purely personal taste, but I don't like the red interior, although the rarity of the PB's is appealing. I think that car would look awesome with saddle. The only difference in the 05's and 06's that matters to me is the LED tails, and you can put those on your '05.
good luck!

I am biased because I do have a 2005 pebble beach. Car turns heads all the time. Yes the diamond metallic paint is not paint it is an occupation. I dont mind the cleaning and care . Its all part of ownership.

I have a black on black '06 and voted for the '06. I would trade the PB for the upgrades every time. Having owned an '03 and now an '06 I find the newer tranny and reprogrammed ecu give the car more performance than previous years. I also like the headlights, taillights and interior upgrades as well. Personally I am not a fan of red interior, but that's more personal. In the end I don't think you can make a mistake.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

Assuming they will do the alignment and the car drives as it should(don't trust their word/ go and drive it for some distance until you are convinced the problem has been fixed) , go with the 2006, without a doubt. There is no competition here..

As much as I love the upgrades of any '06+ SC430, I feel that it does not make up for the difference in mileage and price and exclusivity compared to the '05 PBE.

I would get the PBE, get new wheels, black floor mats, drop it a little, and grab as much attention as possible...

The upgrades for '06 affect the way the car drives -- namely the transmission -- I test drove both models before I bought mine, and for me the difference was huge. And, if you can get the platinum warranty you're golden -- $1850 for three more years bumper to bumper.

here's my take on it. when you buy a pb, you're paying extra for the uniqueness. but the sc430 is already such a low production car, even a stock sc is relatively unique. other than sc owners, no one knows the difference. you'll get a lot more bang for your buck putting your money in wheels and mods. and with the '06 you'll have the upgraded transmission, stereo, taillights etc.
