Default Trading the SC for a Maserati

Do you guys think it's worth it to have a straight trade between:

my 2005 SC430 36K miles for a 2002 Maserati Cambiocorsa 45K miles

Thanks for your opinions!

In terms of reliability it's not that great, but in terms of 'the drive,' it's an awesome trade up. The Maserati Coupé is a wonderful car to drive in moderation given that the Cambiocorsa transmission is far from perfect and prone to failure. The sonority of the V8 in the Maserati is sex for the eardrums. I'd probably opt for a more recent model with less mileage... an '06 Grandsport Coupé preferably, that's the version with the nicer bodykit, brake package and 19'' wheels and some aluminium trim on the inside I think. The motorization is really top notch as you'd expect from a Ferrari but people have had silly things like power windows and stuff like that fail... the Cambiocorsa transmission is definitely something to look out for... those are expensive to fix.

Last one on the 'Inventory' page for reference. Keep in mind that's $80,000 CAD... that version of the Coupé was not available here in Canada so it's likely much cheaper in the states.

I don't think the maintenance/insurance cost for a Maserati is ever worth it...but they are pretty cool

45K miles is probably the equivalent of 300K+ on the SC. but a lot would depend on who was driving it. i'd hate to be the second owner of one that was abused.

^agreed, personally I wouldn't trade in your '05 for the original cambiocorsa (you can even find them for the low 20s with that many miles on eBay)...

agreed on roxanne and Jason 702 most Cambio's are traded within first couple of years 15-20k miles and they do a lot of sitting too. I have looked at them for a long time and have found that the bottom drops out on them if they have more than like 25k miles.

I saw a 2002 not too long ago for $25k. Your SC is worth WAY more than that!

I'd say take $5k cash plus the Maserati!

PS-does it have the paddles and skyhook? Designo interior with the piped leather? There is a bad *** one on cars.com forever in NY that is all pimped out red on tan with all the goodies aftermarket exhaust, etc 14k miles and they only want $29k for it.

I lost out on the Maserati with 45K, but I found another one! Here are the specs:

2002 Maserati Spyder Cambiocorsa with 20K miles!!! Maintained through Ferrari of Orlando/ Navigation/ Black on Tan/ No paddle shifters/ Red calipers/ etc.

They're selling for $32,000. I think I may ask for a straight trade. Thoughts? The maintenance of a Maserati is scary, that's probably the most concerning thing about trading my Lexus (which will most likely last forever, haha)

^^^

Like $1000 oil changes and $4000 brake/rotor replacements?

That's typical. Those are the quotes I found with the Quattroporte. Just be aware...

I would wonder why someone would swap cars with you even. Could be he is anxious to get rid of it.

If you can afford to fix it if it breaks, then go for it!

i'd rather have a used 911 if it were my money.

Hey all. I feel like there's been a split of opinion here. I think I may forego the Maserati. I think the reliability of my Lexus is too valuable to trade it. Maserati has an appealing reputation, but if it breaks I don't know if I'll have the funds every time to repair it. On the Lexus there are some relatively easy fixes that I can DIY. Thanks for all the opinions guys!

Where do you take the Maserati to be repaired, Lexus can go to any Lexus or Toyota dealer

yep, learning that myself recently, although I can afford the price of a maserati or 911 too, the maint costs cited by p-car and other exotic car owners outweighs the joys of having the car...UNLESS you are swimming in cash then go for it!
