SC430 Special Stealthy Bird Killer
Birds. They love to bomb our cars and endanger our paint, but it seems my SC430 and the International Brotherhood of Birds have an ongoing blood feud.....
Four. That's right four birds have now been killed by my SC430 since 2002. Most at only 35 to 40 MPH. The one at full highway speed shattered my license frame plastic. They just don't seem to see the SC430 approach and fly right into the my car's path. I've never had a car that does this. It's silver in color and somehow impossible for the birds to avoid in time. On the other hand, they see it just fine for their bombing runs. I'm no doing anything but driving straight down the road.
Anyone else having this happening with their SC430?

I'm not even counting the heron who only had his feet hit when he took off and flew towards the car instead of away from the car. Both windscreen and bird survived that one.
I don't think the birds are able to judge the distance to the SC430 because it is so rounded. Perhaps it simply looks unchanging as it approaches.

Funny you say that. For the first time in my 20 years of driving, I hit a low flying bird that went into my front bumper on a highway. Its beak or claw left a small cut in the bumper. I doubt the poor thing survived - I was doing about 75 on a highway somewhere in Kentucky or Indiana. Never ever had a birdstrike in any other car in my life. At least our engines keep running fine after a birdstrike though ...

Here in VA, robins and blackbirds seem to fly slow and low during the spring months, perhaps they are looking for mates. Never hit one but have come awfully close. I have no clue as to your circumstances being a bird magnet !
