Japanese make mistakes too - Goodbye Lexus SC 430 and Toyota Avalon
Posted by Boata Radu in July 16th, 2008

Looks like Asian car makers are people too, and they can make mistakes. The future models Lexus SC 430 and Toyota Avalon have been canceled due to the poor sales recorded by the present generation.

According to sources inside Toyota, the Japanese manufacturer has cancelled the development of future generation Lexus SC 430, and maybe the future Toyota Avalon sedan will share the same fate. The reason for this move is quite simple, weak sales for the first six months of this year, only 1230 Lexus cars being sold, decreasing by 40% over last year.

Interestingly, however, is that Lexus will launch a much more expensive super-car , at the earliest next year, the brand new Lexus LF-A. Regarding Avalon, Toyota wants to replace it in 2011 with the new generation Camry available in a version with increased wheelbase.

This was posted about 6 months ago. I think the idea is that the SC will go away for a year or two. Then be reintroduced in a new form which is entirely possible.

I want Lexus to make a sexy coupe with the SC name.

I hope they release a new Supra, make it luxurious and toss the L badge in the front, for the new SC!!

Just like the SC300/400 of the past

if they were going to go that rout, they could release a stripped down toyota supra and an upgraded lexus sc. along the same lines as the nissan 350z / infinity g35.

Default 2010 Sc430

It doesn't look that much different from the 2002-2009 to me. It wouldn't make me trade my in.

Default photochop

just looks like an artists photochop rendering.... an ugly one at that...

take out the grill, just like LF-A Roadster
Leave the rest of that LF-A Design
put in the LS460 Engine
Stretch it a bit
Make it 2+2 Seating
Make it Hardtop convertible
Call it the SC460
price at $75,000
Have it with White, Red/black interior like 07 PB SC430

release it in 2010

I will save every penny and buy it..... THE END

I know there are many here who think the SC body style is dated but it is one of the reasons I bought my 08' SC. I think it looks like the classic Porsche 356 roadster.

Thanks, but I'll be keepin' my SC430 for a long time!

I like the SC430, it's a great car so don't flame me!!!!

Default Refreshed SC coming this fall

Let me put all the speculation to rest on this. The SC will get refreshed this fall when it will go on sale as the 2010 SC. We don't have any definitive info on body change, engine upgrade yet. It will most likely get the Smart Access key and might see an upgrade on Nav.

I doubt it will take on the appearance shown in the photo above (though it would certianly energize the owner base bigtime if it did look like the pic). I'll post anything definitive I hear!

The 2010 looks boxier than the old sc430. The old sc430 look more sporty to me.

Talking Wind doesn't care what year it is!

As all of the "outdated" SC430's are pushed to the curb I will gladly stand by with my brush and dust pan and collect them. I will then laugh like mad as I drive away in what is truly one of the most well built, well designed and engineered vehicles ever made. Sure technology is sweet, but I am in trafffic 90% of the time and the other 10% I want to leave my CrackBerry and bluetooth at home and just enjoy the ML sound system and the top down. Funny, the wind still feels like the wind whether it's in a 2010 or a 2002........
My thinning hair doesn't know the difference! Enjoy the Ride!
