Oh, so you didn't use all the other pieces of the kit you have placed around the tire in the first picture?

But I guess to each his own thing!
I just bought the RX8 spare tire and cover, without all the rest of the kit. I found it on craigslist and the guy sold just the wheel/tire and cover to me for $180. You don't have to have the bracket and all the hardware the RX8 spare tire kit comes with, especially if you're not planning on even keeping it in the car most of the time.

The tire fits perfectly down into the well, and with the cover that it comes with, it truly looks like it's made for the car. The spare is very light, and with the cover, it's very clean. You can lift it in and out of the car and not even get your hands dirty. And it's so light, it doesn't even raise a sweat. But the real test was whether the top went up and down with no problem, and it certainly does. I don't think there can be any better alternative.

The recommended spare is T145/70R17, and this one is T125. If that's a concern to you, then hold out and try to find the Toyota Supra TT spare. But like farkas said, it's not like you're going to be driving a long way on this spare. It only needs to get you to the nearest tire store, so it should suffice.

Before you go and cut the carpet and mat, you might want to check with the upholstery place to find out how much they will charge. It may wind up being cheaper just buying one from Sewell or someone like that.

Good find TooCoolSC. I just went and entered the part numbers for the mat, cover and trim in Sewell's website and couldn't find them any longer. I found them on Friday and today they're gone. Hopefully, they are just servicing their website right now or something. Rather odd.

Do you have sources for the rest of the spare tire kit?

No, I don't. I looked for separate items by part numbers to see if someone could pick and choose what they wanted, but couldn't find anything except the mat and wheel and the entire kit.

If someone is going to opt for the entire kit, be sure and enter the code for CL members in order to get the 10% discount. I believe they are still doing that. The code is CL911M.

Yes, it's the spare from a 93-98 Toyota Supra Twin-Turbo. It's T145/70R17. This is the size Lexus recommends for the spare and the size you'll get if you buy the expensive spare tire kit from Lexus.

So that's the main one people look for. I also read somewhere that a 2004 Acura TL tire/wheel would work, as it's also T145/70R17. I haven't verified that, though.

Another option is the RX-8 spare tire. It works, but is a little smaller (T125/70R17). One good thing about it is that it comes with an elastic cover that just fits around the tire, and it fits snugly down into the wheel well in the trunk. Some people secure it with a bungee cord, but it fits snugly as is.

My spare is usually in my garage. I only put it in on longer trips.

Sorry, folks, I decided not to skimp. Paid $630 for the kit from the dealer which included everything. Its a lexus product, matches carpet and hardware, and was very easy to install and left me with carpet parts that i've kept but could have resold. My reasoning is that I purchased my 02 in June 08 for $27K with only 23K miles on it. At that price I could afford Luxlink, new wheels, Aud/video mods, rear window mod, and the wheel kit. The lexus throws in the trunk are for covering the back seat when I need to put packages back there. They match ecru (but not the trunk) and have the lexus logo on them. I'm still under $30k and other than wheels will keep it stock. This wll either be a lifer or will be replaced by a 2010 in 2015. No regrets about $630. I feel my moneys in the right place.

I have an 02 as well. Replaced the run flats with G'year GTs (huge improvement). That said, a donut for trips would be nice. I had thought about "Fix a Flat" spray but I understand that screws the pressure sensors. So the RX8 donut works?

Just purchased a T145/70 17 Goodyear spare from Tire Rack and a Supra TT spare wheel from Toyota Parts bin. Wheel was 1/2 the price that a Lexus and Toyota dealer were asking. Tire was also cheaper than the Bridgestone version. I look forward to getting rid of the RFT's. Probably leaning towards the Mich Pilot A/S. Just plan to carry the spare on long trips.
