Default Water Water Update!

Update on my 04 Pebble Beach trunk leak. Last I posted the dealer cleaned debris from rubber around trunk and realigned a drainage tube. Rains came and again, and again I had a slight dribble of water coming down from from upper trunk driver's side seam area that dripped down and settled as damp spot in square area of back trunk where the screen rests when not pulled out.

So back to the dealer - feeling discouraged and angry - my totally perfect car that I have owned for only 6 mos. had sprung a mystery leak that might never be found! OK - this time the head of service dept. at the dealer worked on it and they replaced entire rubber seal around the trunk and did multiple tests. Later he told me he had seen SC trunk leaks before - typically at lower end of trunk but that if this didn't fix it they would bring in a specialist from the Lexus factory. The worrisome part for me was that before replacing the seal they could not replicate the leak using their sprayers etc. Seems only true rain could get in!!!???

So brought her home and 2 days later another storm and with fear in my heart I opened the trunk and she was dry as a bone!! OMG - could this really be fixed? Another rain and another dry trunk! Will keep you posted - ofcourse hope others don't have the same problem, however, if you do I hope my experience might help others. Trunk leaks are very difficult to find, therefore, the best way to proceed might be to go for replacing the entire trunk seal (mine was under warranty).

One question - in obsessing about every nook and seam around the trunk after the seal replacement I noticed after rain water collects in large beads on the outside very narrow flat metal ridge right under the metal edge of the trunk itself - on the car body - you can hardly even see it unless you lean over slightly and look for it - you see it when trunk is closed and can run your finger along it to wipe the water off. Anyone else have this? Not inside at all - just doesn't seem to drain off. Might has always collected there after a rain and just dries but was wondering if the new seal is causing this. Just curious - not worried because it is on the outside.

Glad you got your leak fixed (knock on Bird's eye Maple)!

I had a windshield leak on mine...dealer couldn't reproduce it. There was a lot of back and forth. Nice that your dealer took your word for it and replaced the whole seal.

Now get out there and enjoy this top-down weather!

Since your dealer gave you a 100% effort to fix your problem it would be nice to mention who they are. We sometimes hear about the really bad dealers but when one comes along that really gives you customer service for your hard earned dollars it would be nice to know who they are.
I would gladly drive 30 miles out of my way to a dealer that I knew really cared about customer service. You might be on the East coast but I am sure there are members on here that would like to know.

I notice this when I wash the car. I make sure to spray there during the rinse to drive out the sudsy water. But yeah, it just stays and evaporates.

Just back from a trip where we had 3 serious storms and then drove a couple of hours in the rain coming home - but then sun came out so we got to do some fantastic top down! But - point is - still no leaks in trunk and feeling great and more confident with each storm !!

Agree with Norman52 - very useful to share name of dealer who did such an excellent job of fixing problem and assuring me they would stick with me until it was fixed. So - dealer was Lexus of Rockville in Maryland and the Shop Foreman who took over the problem was Larry Solan. He has had a great deal of experience and had worked on similiar SC leak problems over the years.

An aside - the car is just fantastic at high speeds - and even with top down on Penn. Turnpike I could hear my music and felt like the world was mine!!

A Question - Don't get the trip info. I re-set the trip odometer but on the screen it didn't tell me stats. for my trip - said ave. speed was something like 24 !! Is there a way to get the trip stats. just for the current trip? Looked at manual and didn't see where you can re-set it (except trip A and B odometer). My car is a 2004.

A Very Happy Rustito and a very dry Pebble Beach SC!!

Yup...the Average Speed and Average MPG can be reset. Toggle to the one you want to reset and then press and HOLD the button down for about 2 seconds. It'll reset to 0. They're independent so, you need to do each one individually. I reset both of these with each tank of gas.

Rustito, I've seen your car a couple times at the dealer and wondered if it was yours because of the posts. Larry is a great guy who knows his stuff and Im glad to hear your car is fixed.

More storms yesterday and trunk is still dry as a bone!

Hey KiPod - Do you work at Lexus of Rockville - since you mentioned seeing my car there a couple of times?? After a few more storms (just to be sure) I plan to call Lexus and tell them how satisified I am with how they handled the leak and I plan to mention Larry specifically. They usually call after each time I have had my car in to ask whether I was satisified with the service - and actually they called last week to see if I was still leaking. This time it is important that they get the good feedback! Meeting someone like Larry early in my Lexus experience is just great - the leak wasn't but trusting a dealership service dept. is important.

Yeah, I have been at Lexus of Rockville since 01. I work in the parts department. There are a few guys on this forum who work with me.
