Default Do you have wear marks on your nav screen?

My recently acquired 2004 SC has two prominent marks on the nav screen that aren't cleaning off with glass cleaner. One's top right, and one's bottom right.

I'm sure bottom right is "I agree", and whatever is top right.

But I wonder if anyone has had any success with removing or refinishing in such a way to remove or hide the marks.

They don't look like dirt, but rather a wear mark.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi - I purchased a 2004 SC and I have smudges type marks on the navi screen. I haven't tried to clean but would be interested in suggestions too.

I was told never to clean those with glass cleaner so be careful. Are you still in warranty? That would take care of it.

I stoped by the local computer store and picked up some wipes that you use to clean the screen on a laptop. Those cleaned the nav screen to look like new.
I then installed some Nav Screen protectors which is a clear film that is custom cut to fit over the Nav Screen. I got these off of Ebay. Now I can just remove the protector when it is covered in fingerprints and reinstall a new one.

Thanks for the ideas Norm. I will try. When I look at my screen it strkes me as "worn", not dirty. But nothing ventured, nothing gained.

As for warranty, well, I do have warranty still, but I don't think it's Lexus' problem if the screen face has been worn, or damaged from improper cleaning. I guess I could ask them, but it wasn't something apparent to me to even suggest to a service writer. Would others think it is something that should be covered by warranty? Hmmmm

Thanks,
Jerry

P.S. Norm, Oil Extractor on order. Thanks for that idea too.

Regular warranty, I would think so. Extended, doubt it. I have the wear marks as well.. and extended... I haven't even tried to get it warrantied.

I've seen screens in the condition you describe. I still can't figure out how a finger tip could cause screen damage, unless you're a guitar player with rock solid caluses or Howard Hughes with fingernails.

Try Klear Screen (laptop and LCD cleaner.) It has a small amout of polish in it, which might improve your screen damage. I've tried a number of things on my nav screen and Klear Screen seems to work best for me.

Good luck.

Soak your fingers in windex and touch the screen. This will remove the antiglare filter.

Now that's interesting. You're saying that I can 'wash off' the antiglare filter, to a result of a smoother, cleaner screen. Then I could put on a stick on antiglare, protective screen. Really?

That would be great, as I really have a hard time suggesting to Lexus that it's their problem in poor design.

Thanks FunGuy,
Jerry

Oh, and can someone tell me how to have my nav screen exposed, but not turned on? As it is, if I want to wipe away fingerprints I do it when the "Caution" screen is up, but it would seem better if I could get access to it without the system being on.

Thank you, repeatedly. This forum is a great resource. For years I followed Miata.net, another great forum, but this one is definitely up there.

TM510,

Open the screen, hit the hard-button for "display" and then touch "screen off" on the screen. Then you can clean it and not accidentally route yourself to Omaha! You can hit the hard "Map/Destination" button to wake it back up.

The aniti glare can be washed off with amonia. This will compromise the anti glare filter. Protective screen is not anti glare.

Thanks. Yes, I agree. While the protective screen seems to offer (or claim to offer) some reduction in glare, it is not a true anti-glare.

But with my screen the way it is, I am willing to take the glare, and not have the spots.

But maybe I'll ask my Lexus dealer first if there's any way it might be covered by waranty first.

Thanks again.
