Can't Wait
Just wanted to say howdy!
My new SC-430 is due this Thursday and I can hardly wait!! I'm going to miss the XK8, it had great styling and some neat features. It also had its aggrivating points too (contrary to what Jaguar says Lucas is not quite dead), and the local dealer can't hold a candle to my local Lexus dealer.
This takes me back to an all-Nippon garage. One Lexus (ours), one Infiniti (wife's QX4) and one Mazda (my MX-5).

What year was your XK8 coupe or convertible? What problems did it have? Every person I spoke to who has one love it. They say they are not having any or many problems at all.. They(about 60%) complained about the service however...
Congrats on the SC430...

“Lucas” refers to the electrical systems used on earlier British cars. They were notorious for weird electrical gremlins. My XK8 was a coupe. It had a few electrical quirks that the dealer was never able to correct. Once in while the steering wheel would not return to the present position when the key was inserted in the ignition. All you needed to do was remove and reinsert the key. It also would show an intermittent traction control failure (about once a year). The transmission was also a little quirky. It would seem to “get lost” if I did an abrupt let off on the gas during hard acceleration (like upon hearing the radar detector fire). Probably my biggest complaint with the car, however, was its brakes. They would often squeal when stopping. The dealer had no luck at all with this.
The dealer was “OK”, no better or worse than my local Mazda dealer. They did at least offer to wash the car after service (but nobody washes my cars except me).
On the plus side, I loved the styling of the car and the engine. The handling was good (not as good as my Miata) but I preferred the steering feel of the SC430.

Hey, congrats on your new purchase. Curious as to what you are
doing with the XK8, because I have been looking extensively for a coupe rather than a convertible. My soon to be fiance, really likes those cars and we have narrowed it down to the XK8 and a CLK Mercedes. Anyways, the short version is, is the Jag for sale??? Please let me know.

Ouch, you always get bit by the depreciation bug when you buy a car like the XK or the SC brand new. I must say that while I've always disliked Jaguar, I wouldn't mind the new SC running gear with the XK8's body. No screwball electrical or mechanical problems, nice bodywork and a great dealer. Hmm.. I should email a copy of this to Toyota.
