Default $600.00 Rear break Pads and Rotors Replaced??????

hello, just wanted someones thought and input on this.....I just got back from the Lexus Dealership for inspection and they told me that its time for my Rear breaks (rear pads and rotors) to be replaced. price with labor is around $600.00 with taxes........???????.......

is this the regular price, has anyone had there rear breaks/Rotors replaced.

This is only the Rears.....the front breaks/rotors are not going to be touched!

is there any other alternative???????

Default 38K miles

the SC430 has 38K miles on it......
and they told me that the rear break rotors are thin already and needs replacing, same as the rear break pads......

That sounds extremely suspicious, especially with only 36K miles; the brunt of the braking if on the front rotors, not the rear ones. That sounds like when the Lincoln tech told my wife the Navigator needed new pads immediately, THREE TIMES. After the 3rd time, I still went 5K miles before replacing them. Talk about ripping customers off. I need to say I trust Lexus service way better than any other brand, but I always check what am told if I can.

I'd measure the rotors myself, as well as checking the pads before agreeing to anything. You can check both disc thickness and pad condition without removing the wheel, but you'll need a small swiveling mirror for the pads. Measure the thickness with a caliper; you can buy a cheap plastic one at Sears, and will do that job perfectly.
I think the minimum thickness is on the owners manual, but I have the Lexus factory service manual in case you need me to look it up. Good luck.

There are always alternatives like going to another dealer, doing it yourself, or shop around other local shops. All Lexus have very thin rear rotors. SC430's are not even vented, just a solid very thin piece of iron which warp very easy and do not have much life to turn. Personally if you need to have it done, buy some of those $80.00 rotors on the auction site and some good pads. Slap them on yourself and your out $150.00 max from your pocket. I run those same rotors very hard and no issues. Some people here are stuck on name brand stuff (normally only after they bought them and nothing else to compare to) like Brembo rotors so that may be an option as well. Which ever your are more comfortable with. I just could not swallow $600 for just rear brakes. Think of the mods you can get with the extra cash.

Mine were gone at 37000 miles as well. I replaced them myself no problem. Very easy to do.

I agree on the suggestion to measure the rear rotors. That shouldnt need replacing at this point. The pads are pretty easy to do yourself once you've gotten your feet wet.

agree, that price seems very high, but then it's dealership so nothing you can do about it. but it's definitely some work that a lot of people or mechanics can do (if they really need replacing)
