SC430 Reverse camera/DVD Installation
#31
Couple of pics of the DVD unit. Very compact and would fit nicely in the glove box, however to preserve video quality I am going to install it in the rear corner of the trunck area where the video line will be kept shortest.
I also decided to order up a Vaistech unit for the audio needs of the system. Might as well go all the well at this point.

Thx for all the info you've provided! The 3rd pic doesn't work Lee.
Where'd you get this & how much?
Will you be updating us on the install w/pics for this dvd player & Vaistech unit? I'm crossing my fingers!

HA HA guys, you are funny. I mod as a hobby. Helps me relax and take my mind away from the stresses of life and work. Plus to share my knowledge, experiences (both good and bad) with others here just makes things much better. Your a great group of guys and I am happy to mod away.

IF all I want is the backup camera, any idea what the approximate cost would be? What would I need in addition to the camera or is the DVD system essential to getting the backup camera to work properly?
This would be for my friend's wife so the more user friendly it is the better, hopefully, it would come on when backing up and turn off with not backing up.

"black box" to control everything: $200
reverse camera: $100-$200
So you're total would be about $300-$400 ASSUMING your friend installs it himself. If he doesn't feel comfy w/that then imo at most you shouldn't have to pay a car audio shop more then $100-$150.
You don't need the dvd player in order to use the backup camera. The dvd player's for watching movies, music video's, etc. The reverse camera will turn on & off (just like the factory setup) as long as you follow Lee's instructions on how to do that.
I think the cheapest place to get both the black box & reverse camera would be on ebay. For me, the hardest part of all this is trying to figure out what type of reverse camera I want (size & where to mount it). Good luck!

Correct, perfect for backup camera, no need for DVD operation as I plan on using it seldom anyhow.
