I Am A Dumb A$$, I Tried to Mod the SRT Intake

I called on one of our resident experts, Lee. He was awesome as usual.

Ultimately I believe the SRT Air Filer has a gash on the top where it rubbed against the engine compartment. It was letting to much air in. According to SRT… shortening the pipe should have no adverse effects. Thanks again to Lee for the support.

With the air filter off it is ok with no engine light. With air filter on it revs to 1000rpm then back 800 over and over and engine light is on. So I screwed up, trying to be a pioneer. I will contact SRT Monday and try to get the tubes direct. No second car. Stranded at home reminded of my stupidity. I didn’t even think to ask anyone about the length of the intake being that critical. Live and learn.

Here's the black and white: (my nightmare)
(new SRT Piping & New MAF)
SRT setup with MAF plugged in---car won't idle revs from 0rpms to 1000rpms over and over, engine light flashes at 0rpm
SRT setup with MAF unplugged---car won't idle at all, engine light on
SRT setup with MAF plugged in & SRT ECU unplugged---car won't idle at all, engine light on
SRT setup with MAF unplugged & SRT ECU unplugged---car will always fail first start attempt... then will start on second attempt & idle at normal speed, any more than 10% throttle gets hesitation, engine light on + VSC + VSC Off (limp mode)

I am thinking that something set off the light and the ecu possibly went into limp mode and will only run fine once the code is cleared. Sorry I could not help further.

SRT Intake Kit VS. Injen Intake Kit
SRT:
adds a few extra horsepower, due to having its own tuned ECU.
adds a bit more of a growl to the sound, I think because of the larger pipes.
lacks a mounting bracket, so it is not as tightly secured.
lacks a bracket for the ODB canister.
lacks a heat shield for SC430.
lacks clearance, due to it's length.
lacks in appearance, colors don't match engine compartment.
cost is a little to high $450.00
Injen:
has a perfect fit and finish
has a mounting bracket, so it is tightly secured.
has a bracket for the ODB canister.
has a heat shield for SC430.
has clearance, due to it's custom fit.
has a very clean appearance, due to angles of the pipe and black powder coat.
easy installation, no need to wire into the ECU
cost is a very fair price. $207.00

A aftermarket ECU would most likely offer some gains, but the SRT ecu has been unsuccessfully tired with the Injen.

Intalled Injen Yesterday
I installed the Injen intake on my wife's 2002 SC yesterday. The entire project took about 1 hour. It's very straightforward. If you can change the oil on the car you can change the intake.
We love the growl when accelerating. Nice and mellow when driving normal, then a nice deep throaty roar when you get into the throttle. I don't have a dyno or track to really give test feedback but I would recommend the chage to anyone!
