Default TOM's rear spoiler painted/installed w/pics

For anyone thinking of proceeding with this there are a couple of items to look out for.
1) As in all body parts trial fit the spoiler before painting as sanding will have to be done for perfect fitment. Most bodyshops skip this and the final product has gaps.
2) Removing the old spoiler is a tedious task even for pros. Have a heat gun ready. Also the new spoiler is not as wide as the factory spoiler so be careful of the deck lid finish while removing the old spoiler. Scratches hidden with the old spoiler will now be visible with the new one making the spoiler removal a patient process.
3) Instructions do not mention it (not that I could read them anyhow) but there are several holes left in the deck lid. These must be sealed to prevent water from getting to the interior. Silicone works best.

Here is the spoiler after the base coat was applied and before the clear. I did this on my back patio. I would not recommend painting a car this way but a body part is no problem. In fact I will be renting a paint booth to repaint the entire Porsche 968 shortly. I used 3 base coats and 4 coats of clear for this spoiler. Color match was spot on.

Here is the deck lid after cleaning which took awhile to remove the old tape. Lexus used over 7 FEET of double stick tape plus the clips to hold this down.

Here is the old spoiler. Notice all of the tape Lexus used? This thing is a royal pain to remove.

Colorsanding is complete. I started with 1000, then to 1500 and 2000. Final buffing compund was used to bring back the ultra luster of the new clear.

Finished product. Sorry, garage lighting. Daytime pics to come.

I was really looking for something more aggressive vs the stock spoiler which I am not a fan of. This is a bit nicer though still a bit tame. My opinion was that the common person will not notice a difference between this spoiler and the OEM spoiler. When a friend came over late in the day he asked if I put on a new spoiler which put a smile on my face.

Would I do it again? Tough question. It is similar to the stock spoiler however I had no choice as some &^%*&^*&^* keyed my old spoiler in two spots.

Will post some daytime pics soon.

Is the only difference the length of the Toms spoiler compared to stock?

The spoiler is also a bit thinner in the middle vs the OEM spoiler. I wish it was the same width as it would add to it's aggressiveness in my opinion. However I do like how it extends to the lights on each side.

I like it, it's subtle & doesn't stick out too much which is appropiate for the SC.

I thought about adding a CF piece to it, but am still undecided. Do you guys think it would look out of place? it would go in the lower section of the spoiler.

Here is a day shot

LOL. Saw your first post. Yeah your right. I could go on about a few of my neghbors. Good thing is that we are out of here into a much nicer place in a few months. Not enough garage space.

very nice there lee, nice stuff! i also like how it's a bit more than the stock but not much more

although it seems like it's a bit too long one both sides? i wish it's a bit shorter
