Default "CRUISING SHELF" for SC 430

Did anyone yet obtain the black "Cruising Shelf" for the rear interior of the SC 430? Originally, this accessory was only available in Japan for the Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC 430). The following link advertises the "cruising shelf" for $980. See SC 430>2002-2005>Interior>Cruising Shelf (Scroll to fifth item down).

<www.l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=26>

Being this expensive, I would certainly like to hear from anyone who actually purchased (or even saw) this item. I have high-maintenence ecru leather seats. The so-called "rear seat" on the SC 430 is useless for adult passengers and can only serve for stowing parcels, etc.

Is this item fiberglass? Plastic? Washable? Paintable? Moving parts? A mere photo of the $980 "Cruising Shelf" leaves many unanswered questions. Can anyone help?

I really wish Lexus had done something like what Porsche has done with the 911. The rear seat backs fold forward to give you a carpeted shelf. Porsche has had this for at least 25 years. David

FYI- There's a thread on here dating back to 2003 that reads like it came to the same confused conclusions!

It DOES make a lot of sense though (but pricey!)

That thing looks pretty cheesy to me, and $980.00 will buy a lot of leather cleaner.
