Ed, just ordered struts from the same place last week. I should be getting them anytime. 10-4 on the clip being relatively easy to remove. I took mine off the other day to replace with NAPA's that didn't quite fit.

Thanks for the info and will also give feedback after replacing mine in the next few days.

I was alerted to the failure rate on the struts here, so I had the dealer replace them at the end of my 4 year warranty, so I should get about 4 more years on the new ones. It's nice to know of a source for replacements, since it's an easy job and the price of these is a lot less than the dealers are charging.

For those still under warranty, put that on you list of things to get checked and replaced at the 3 yr, 11 month service. My dealer is very good about replacing anything he can at that point for me; we just did that last week on my '04 RX (but as usual, we couldn't find anything that needed fixing).

Ordered last Saturday, processed to Paypal on Tuesday and received the pair of struts today.

It took almost 10 minutes to install both using a small screwdriver. So simple anybody could do it. Nobody is laughing now when I take my golf clubs out of my trunk. They may laugh at my game, but not my head banging trunk. (-:

Default Replacing Trunk Struts SC430

Ed, Thanks for the reference to "Lift Supports Depot.com". Trunk lid works like new. Have attached photos of the replacement process. Sorry for the black and white, but the file size limit is only 390k. Thanks to “Mrs. Hardtop430” for holding the lid open.

Talking Lift Supports Depot. com - great solution

Ed, Lar, and Hardtop430,

Just want to say thanks. I read this tread and instead of ordering the Lexus replacement parts for $299.00 for the pair of Trunk Struts I took Ed's suggestion and orders a pair of Struts (part number was 10745 for trunk with spoiler) for my 2002 SC430 (which is out of warranty) got a 10% discount for online order and pay a total of $67.45 including shipping. They were delivered in 4 days by USPS. Was able to install in about 5 mins using the info from Hardtop430. Opens like new. Thanks.

Note:
Was able to insert both top pins and the driver side lower pin in trunk up position they were easy to reach only had to close trunk and open roof half way to pin lower right side pin. I must confess, I did the install by myself, used a board to prop open the trunk. Would not recommend this as the safe way, but it worked for me.

Thanks again.
