OK.. The main thing to worry about First is if your car is already in the US did you get the deregisteration paper work done before th car left Japan.. If NO then guess what thats a REAL BIG problem.. If the car has not left japan then make sure this is done... Second find an importer that has a history with shipping half cuts and motor sets and have them just MSO a whole car.. Now don't use someone new to the importing game.. The new people get alot more hassle from Customs that the one the are use to dealing with..If you are on the East coast find someone that uses the Savannah Ga port. No Xraying of containers here and also no smogging of cars. Then you will have to find someone at the DMV that is "WILLING" to help you. Even though it is a hassle fo most to be honest its not really as hard for the DMV as they want you to think. They can do the paper work and have the VIN which is under the hood on the Soarer into the computer as a "special registration"...But the main thing is the deregisteration paper work... This show the car left Japan legally and that a car is not still in Japan registred as the same as the one they register. It will take a while to get it all done but it can be done... Now is it worth is...The comment about just swapping VIN plates with a SC, well that would work but getting the car here and through customs is a big part of the problem.. We had to pay a guy to cut up two complete Supras a few years back before customs would pass the container.. Thats why I hate dealing with West Coast ports.. I will let my stuff ride for two extra weeks to get to a East Coast Port..Its all about finding people that is wiling to help and that can come through on there part.. (1) finding a car and having it deregistered (2) finding an importer that will take the chance of having there whole container held up in customs to MSO a whole car. (3) findng a person at the DMV that either just doesn't care or doesn't know and that will use the deregisteration paper work and build a record under special registration like they do for military people with "GREY" market Mercedes and BMWs from Germany. And believe me I know all this to be true.

soarer
The car was "deregisitered" from japan. It is going to be registered the right way. I don't want to have to drive a car and wonder every time I go out that I might go to jail today for swapping vins. I found a RI in san francisco that specializes in registering "grey market cars". So far they seem legit and very wiling to help. I will hopefully get the car up there soon and get things going. I am so excited!!!

I bet you are! excited that is. How many RI's did you go through before you found this one? I went through sooo many, i gave up hearing the same bs line! in the end.
Is there any hope for me then?/plight
Yes my car is still here! should have been exported at the end of sept/03 otherwise customs said they would crush it! not heard anything from the authorities.
Chris tell us more about the purchase, was it a jap dealer or an auction etc?
Whats so important about deregistering? please explain.
Just incase some of you missed my other posting.

and Ive been asked about 1000 times from various people about
bringing in a Soarer legally.
Plain and simple, it cant be done "legally" anymore
I got mine in 6 months before the govt took them off the Vehicle Eligibility List.
Since then its not feasable nor legally possible.
I know what it takes and how to do it and been thru it, trust me
its not worth trying at this point in time.
Im in Tucson btw
thanks......Dg
