The Hell with Mods - Part 2
Many of you may remember a popular thread started by the Ikon two years ago with the same subject. I took this thread to heart and have done a considerable amount of work to my SC over the last year. Not one thing I did was performance related or what I would consider a real mod such as a body kit or even new rims. However, in the last 12 months or so I have spent $9K on my '93 SC with 160K mi.
Here is a high level breakdown and I will not bore you with the details. If a price seems a bit high, I probably forgot some other items done at the same time:
Exterior - $4K - New paint (I had several chips and scratches, door dings and a small dent). I replaced or fixed every visible inch of the body. New emblems, new windshield (it was pitted), rechromed factory wheels, new door hinge, polished all lights. I'm sure I forgot something here.
Interior - $2K - New seats from Leatherseats.com professionally installed, custom arm rests made with additional leatherseats leather, American Stitches wood/leather wheel.
Mechanical - $3K - Complete new suspension (springs, shocks, AND bushings), new brakes w/ cross-drilled rotors, complete tune-up, complete transmission service, Potenza S03 tires, new axel, etc...
Many might think it is unwise to invest this kind of money in a car that is over 10 years old with high mileage. My reasoning was that for safety reasons the mechanical needed to be done anyway. That left me with $6K I would consider discretionary. One thing I refuse to do is to drive a beater, so I had to do something. If I bought a new car or even a slightly used one, I could not get this level of luxury and performance for even my first years payments on such a car (especially after tax, license, etc). Thus, my logic was that even if I just drove this car for one more year it would be worth it, not to mention the pride of having an SC that looks how it SHOULD look.
I hope you guys all appreciate the pictures that follow. I would have been lost on not only on how to do things, but also WHAT I needed to do if not for this message board and the help of my fellow CL members!
Enjoy,
Ryan

A huge thumbs up.
There would be nothing sadder than seeing an SC beater. Just too fine of a car to let get in a run down condition. Especially considering that there weren’t that many made – relatively.
My 2 cents says your bucks were well worth it!

EV ftw!!!
It was money well spent on such a beautiful car!!! Clearly the finished product demonstrates that in massive amounts!!
I consider what you did as no different than spending money restoring a classic car. That model of the SC is a classic in my opinion.
Kudos to you man!!! Keep up the good work. I just love that generation of the SC. I don't particularly like the latest SC
