'93 SC400 originally with Nakamichi system (now very dead).
I'm replacing with aftermarket components.
Sub-woofer is a 86160-24320 with 5 ohm impedance (which is compatible with my aftermarket sub-woofer amp).
Anybody know what the OEM factory sub is actually RATED in watts?
I don't want to blow it with my aftermarket amp.
I can turn down the maximum output on my sub-amp if necessary, but I want to try to re-use the OEM unit if possible.
i was just looking for the answer to the same question.. hoping someone has this info. or what is the stock sub channel output of the naka amp in watts rms?
i have the 5 ohm naka sub sitting in my car and i just relocated my battery to the trunk so getting an amp hooked up to it is fairly simple now.
The Nak package was advertised at 280 watts, with 100 of those for the subwoofer. I think that was at 4 ohms.
I've had my stock sub hooked up to a 300W Alpine MRP-M500 for the past few years with no issues. I don't crank it up all the way because the mirror gets blurry but it sounds great at reasonable levels.

Small world . . . . . I have the exact same Alpine sub-woofer amp which I'm relocating into my SC-400 from another car of mine, so I should be able to expect similar results. I plan on making a bracket to support the Alpine amp so it fits over the hole area in the trunk left after removing the Nak amp and CD Changer. That way, I'm not losing much more of my precious little trunk space.

Wow! Relocating battery is a big chore. I simply added a large in-line fuse in my engine compartment and ran #8 thru firewall, under dash, under carpet then thru a rubber plug behind the back seat. At the same time, I extended the sub-woofer signal leads and the amp "trigger" cables along the same route.
For speaker leads, I also extended an 8-conductor cable from my new in-dash unit back to the trunk and spliced them into the OEM speaker conductors that originally came out a connector from the Nak amp in the trunk.
Sparkguy, I did exactly as you plan - I made a bracket and fit the amp where the original cd changer was. It fits like the factory meant it to be there. I'm sure you'll love the sound.

It might save some wasted effort.
Visually, there isn't too much to attach support to & I'm still thinking thru how I want to do it.
I'd hate to get mine done and then see how somebody else did it easier and think to myself . . . . . well duh, I should have done mine THAT way.

I finally killed my Nak system also but sub look fine still so I got a Precision Power PPI i640.5 5-channel amp it fits in the factory location I also changed out the fronts with MTX Thunder40's and put some Cerwin-vega 6.5s in the back (was a pain had to cut up deck lid with dremel) sounds great the sub is 5 ohms I had to turn up the amp to get it to thump good
I put an old Bazooka Pro20 P-250 in place of the old CD Changer to power the factory Nakamichi sub. @ 5ohms it puts out about 135 watts. But, the sub will rattle the back deck before it gets all that high, anyway.
Mounted to the old CD Changer bracket it looks pretty decent, all things considered (mostly considering that I didn't want to cut or re-form the factory carpet if I didn't have to.)
I also ran an 8 gauge power wire from the battery, which, yes, is a bit of a pain.
