Default How much did you pay for your SC?

The SC430 forum had the same thread and I thought it was a great idea.

1. In what year did you buy your SC?

2. What year is your SC?

3. Roughly how many miles did the SC have when you bought it?

4. Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)?

5. Roughly how much did you pay for your SC?

1. In what year did you buy your SC? 2012, 2014, 2015

2. What year is your SC? 1992, 1993, 1995.

3. SC300 or SC400? SC400 X 3

4. Roughly how many miles did the SC have when you bought it? 149k for the 92, now has 156k, 198k for the 93, the same now, and 188k for the 95, which now has 191k.

5. Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)? The 92 has been a partial money pit but all in the course of 2 years. Never stranded me. The 95 has been stellar. Got my money out of it pretty fast, zero repairs on that one as of yet, the 93 I've driven once since I purchased it last week so I can't really say anything about that one.

6. Roughly how much did you pay for your SC? Payed $2200 for the 1992, $1450 for the 95, and $1400 for the 93.

They all live outside and still are reliable as they get.

5. Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)? Ehhh, it's been alright. First year not much needed fixing, just thermostat got stuck so I replaced it and did a full coolant flush with a new radiator cap. But since then it's turned into a money pit.
starter, harmonic balancer, MAF, HID wiring and ballast was a mess and had to be redone completely, tranny drain and fill, diff drain and fill, valve cover gasket, plugs, ignition lines, distributor leak killed alt which killed battery, distributor was cracked so whole thing had to be replaced, power steering leak started, Front left LCA ball joint went out, brake lines cracked, climate control LCD went out, steering rack boots both were full of fluid, cluster and needles are half out right now, pretty sure bad vac line is pulling power steering fluid into my intake right now, but gotta figure out where the fluid is going as I'm pretty sure it's going through the intake

Worst part is I know I'm forgetting stuff that broke. Not to mention the preventative maintenance I've done before things broke. The above is just stuff that broke on me.

6. Roughly how much did you pay for your SC? $6,500

Came with the rims, megan coils, and the body kit. At the mileage and condition it was in the price felt fair and still feels fair today.

yes, it was basically done in the mods department that i would like to do to it and mechanically in great condition, however there's some body rust that i've been working on, an ignition coil went out, but that's it, it's been a great car otherwise.

1. In what year did you buy your SC? 2015

2. What year is your SC? 1998

3. Roughly how many miles did the SC have when you bought it? 173K

4. Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)? The car was in great condition, interior and performance. Couple of paint chips on the front bumper and the chrome stock wheels peeling off. Other than that, I think I got a fair deal, especially considering it's a 1998 SC400 which came with VVT-i and an extra 30HP and since only around 3,000 were of those made.

1. In what year did you buy your SC?

2010

2. What year is your SC?

1993

3. Roughly how many miles did the SC have when you bought it?

189,000 nearly on the dot.

4. Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)?

50/50 but mostly yes. The shady dealership was supposed to have repaired the braking system which almost completely failed after I drove it off the lot. I had brakes if I drove it VERY carefully and slowly. Being so rare to find I wasn't fazed by the worn out clutch, needs-TLC door panels, failed trunk struts and worn out tires. It was a one-owner Lexus in otherwise great condition and I loved it. It reminded me of the two LS400's that have been in my family for 25 years. I did the major services and repairs immediately and while I did have to replace some components from time to time it was the near immediate upgrading of the car that sucked the most money.

Yes, it's been a money pit but if I'd left it completely stock I think it would have been mild par for the course. I am not unhappy about anything other than that Lexus never gave it a turbo from the factory.

5. Roughly how much did you pay for your SC?

$5,000. Could have negotiated a bit, perhaps. I'd already been car shopping for three months with no luck and at that point just needed a car. It was well under my maximum budget and I knew what common upgrades could be done to it. Nearly any other car in the same condition I'd have walked from.

Do you feel you got a good deal (did the car break down after purchase, incur high repair costs, etc)? I wanted this car desperately for years.I should have had it inspected but,i just test drove it and bought it.Immediately had to replace the left rear wheel bearing.Have also put new pads and rotors on the front plus a few other maintenance needs like fluid changes. In all dumped an immediate 1200-1300 dollars into her.And oh ya i overpaid slightly at 2700$ although the paint body and interior are all above average.Owned her for 2 months so far and will never part from her
