For the CF epoxy I use http://compositeenvisions.com/, I wasn't able to get through to them via phone last time, but the epoxy is on ebay for about $75 per gallon. It's awesome stuff.

For the Carbon Fiber Weave, Fiberglass resin, weave, mat, and gel coat I purchased locally at Johnston Fiber. http://www.johnsonfiberglassinc.com/ At $25 a yard for CF it's cheaper than I could find online.

Purchased some fittings from here. http://www.acpsales.com/Vacuum-Bag-C...-Aluminum.html

The vacuum pump and canister were purchased at http://www.bestvaluevacs.com/vacuumpumps.html

And I can't seem to find the place I ordered all the vacuum bagging, peel ply, gum tape, etc. from but I will get that info as my buddy ordered the supplies through his email. It was really cheap, but I'm sure there are a lot of companies that are about the same price.

We spent about $500 in pump, fitting, supplies and consumables for a complete resin infusion system and many yards of CF and fiberglass. I will try to get a complete list of components for the resin infusion kit we put together, it was much cheaper than any other kit on the market.

I cut out the remainder of the seal. I did this so i can pack clay in without worrying about the rubber compressing when i make the mold.

I had trouble with the clay coming off and contaminating the mold. I also made a rear wing of clay and it ended up deforming before it got knocked off the table and broke into 50 pieces, lol. I used bondo with success, but it's permanent and if you don't get it perfect it would be hard to sand in that grove.

I'm going to lay foil over the clay.
all i need is to get one good mold to start with then i can make better plugs from that.

I anticipate having to clean up the mold, getting it right, making a better plug, and then maybe making a much better mold from that part. sounds like a lot but i'm shooting for repeatability.

Are you going to use gel-coat on the mold? That's what was pulling the clay off when I did it. You have to paint it on the sunroof before laying the fiberglass. That's the red layer in my picture it provides a perfect surface that can be sanded and made perfect if you have little imperfections you don't want showing translating to the CF.

i think i'm going to lay aluminum foil on it before PVA and gel coat so i can just wetsand and buff out any imperfections.

Members,

A reminder that Albatross isn't selling these here on Club Lexus; he'd first need to either sign up to be a supporting vendor or sell them through an existing vendor to do that.

Please help keep his great DIY thread open by not posting WTB comments here.

Thanks.

a little update. I'm using non hardening clay to shape the piece how i want. I'm pretty sure i'll need to do a lot of cleanup on the mold and maybe make a new one after test fitting it to the car. I've noticed the sunroof glass has a little more curvature than the roof line. this might be unnoticeable or it might mean shaping the part and making a new mold from it once its perfect.

The adventure continues
