Default Analysis of how many factory 5sp may still be around

I saw someone looking for a 5spd and it got me to thinking I wonder how many factory ones are still out there. Last year I picked up a 92 factory 5spd my pure luck when I ran into a guy at the junkyard who told me he had a car just like my 400 at home but was 5spd would I be interested in it for 1,500. I went and looked at it and it was a 92 5spd and he couldn't figure out was wrong with it that it didn't run. I had a buddy help me and it needed an ecu Put one in and drove it home for 1,000 it runs great but cosmetically its in horrible shape. I took the carpet out today and it looked like it had never been cleaned and someone dumped mud in it. But back to the analysis of how many may still be out there.

Wiki has a chart that shows the years produced and breaks down by AT/MT. According to them there were 3,883 produced. If you figure and this is just a wild *** guess that say 5% are lost of the previous years number every year due to wrecks etc then you would have roughly have about 1,324 factory 5spd still on the road. Figuring just the continental USA this means there are roughly only 28 per state. This of course as I said earlier is a wild *** guess maybe someone else can provide some accurate numbers as to what is to be expected in loss ratios but whatever the case we are 100% certain there are less than 3,883 factory ones out there and they are getting harder and harder to find every year.

(Produced) / Wild *** guess of how many left
1992 - (1601) / 492
1993 - (910) / 310
1994 - (227) / 81
1995 - (793) / 299
1996 - (232) / 92
1997 - (120) / 50

Any number would be a complete speculation/guess. Its so impossible to speculate thats its almost not even worth discussing - although an interesting thought that I've even considered.

..only thing I can think of is some sort of algorithm that is able to calculate a probability of wrecked SC's based on statistical information of other car models.

Someone with access to insurance and DMV records, plus a ridiculous amount of time on their hands, might be able to piece together an educated guess, if not an actual approximation.

Are you talking simply in terms of 5 speed from the factory? Theres plenty of people who swap in 5 speeds into their automatics.

By my count, he answered that question four times in the first post.

I have an original 94 5 speed. I didn't realize that year was so rare.

PS. Why is 97 not listed in the first post?

N1T3MARE fixed it. when I cut and pasted left the 97's off but the 97's are the hardest to find simply because only 120 were ever made.

Some of these never leave their original regions. Mine was first sold in Thousand Oaks, CA in 1992. Years later when I bought it there were only about forty miles of distance from the original dealer that took first delivery. Amazingly, I'm only the second owner of this car. Originally it was bought by, (I assume), a businesswoman. It even had the Lexus Phone option. By the time I got it it was obvious someone in her family had known a thing or two because it had 1996 SC400 rims and Soarer Griffin center caps. And something had been messed with poorly regarding the headlight wiring which I had to fix but other than those things it was left stock. Still, in all that time the title had never changed hands once until I bought it.

I just bought my 92 5-speed a few months ago and before me it was a one owner (doctor) that lived here in Omaha the whole time and always had it serviced at the dealership. My car was one of the earliest ones built.

My 93 also owned by some sort of doctor, lived the majority of its life in florida. I know someone on here owned it, but that will be a separate post to determine its mid life history.
it was then exported up to the northern states as we don't have many up here.

At 68K mine didn't have much history to speak of. One owner in Kentucky sold it to the lady that owned it last. Unfortunately she passed and her family sold it to me. I had it shipped to NYC and it will take YEARS for me to hit 100K with 2 other Sc's and NYC traffic.
I will drive them until it is undeniably illogical to do so....
