Just got one of my dream cars! SC400!
Hey everybody, new to ClubLexus and just got my first one. It happens to be one of the best models I think Lexus has ever produced, the SC400! I traded a guy my Yukon straight up today for a 93 SC400 and it's got 168k on the clock. It actually runs really well and have numerous service records covering the past 21 years. Thousands of dollars in suspension, struts, brakes, and various other things were replaced a couple years ago. Is there anything in particular that I need to look for on this car that might be a soon to be repair? I plan on getting up under it tomorrow and want to cover as many things as possible under there. I am also going to go ahead and do the oil change too, what do you guys recommend on that? I was thinking 10-30 Maxlife and a Mobil 1 M1-102? Thanks in advance and it's good to be in the Lexus game now!

Welcome to Clublexus and Congratulations on your SC400.
I would say check all fluids and replace if necessary. The 1UZFE engine is a very robust engine that can give you a lot of service if properly maintained. It is not uncommon to hear SC400 having more than 300k miles and yet still runs good. The rest like suspension , bushings and the likes can all be taken cared off depending on how it rides. The most important for now is its drive train maintenance.

Congrats and welcome to Club Lexus. The SC400 is my only dream car I can afford to buy... If you serve the 1UZ well, it will serve you even better. As aformentioned by gerrb, it's definitely not unusual to see an SC, particularly the SC400 with 300k miles. I have seen a good amount with around 500k.

Thanks everyone it's great to be a part of ClubLexus! Shocks and struts were done a couple years back, the ride feels nice. Drivers front wheel has a slight bump feel when hitting an edge of pavement. Doesn't always feel that way just sometimes. How do I go about doing AT pan drop and fluid & filter change on this model? I wanna go ahead and do it now so I can have a free mind about transmission later on in the really high miles. I know most of you will probably say only use Toyota type IV fluid, but will Valvoline Maxlife ATF be ok for it? I can get it cheaper and the Toyota dealer wants out the rear for theirs lol. As for the timing belt and water pump, I know for sure the timing belt was done at 164k there is a big yellow Gates sticker on the front left of the timing cover with the mileage written on there. Will post some pictures soon. Hope for some quick replys I love this forum! Thanks again!

sweeeeet car, those ARE rare wheels on a SC, I was lucky enough to buy my used 1998 SC300 that had the same (BBS?) wheels. Mine did not have the "Gold" package though .Looks damn good for a stock SC!

NIce looking ride!!! You officially been sc pimped!! Don't drop your a/t pan.
Just drain from the drain bolt on the bottom of the pan and then refill from the dipstick very slowly. The ammount you drain same amount you refill. Then you start the while it's idling keeping your foot on the brake slowly go through all your gears on your gear shift selector pdnrl and back a couple of times and then take her for ride, do that 2-3 times a year for next couple of years to get rid of the old stuff and you're set.

I never used any high mileage oil on my SC400 that had around 180-190k on it, oil came out after 3000 miles looking just a shade darker than when it went in, never burned a drop except a little through a slow leaky valve cover gasket. Always used Valvoline 5w30 in it with OEM filters.
In my SC300 I just got, changed the oil at 184xxx and put Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic (couldn't afford $29020 to put Amsoil in it like I do my 300ZX) with an OEM filter. Hasn't burned a drop yet that I've seen.
Go ahead and rock synthetic in yours if you want, shouldn't hurt a thing.
