Does anyone know how they made the dash look so smooth? It looks as if they wrapped it with leather or something like that. I have a gaping hole in my dash right now and I'm itching to fill it, but I don't know how to go about it. Anyone here done one of these types of things?

I don't know if they refinished the dash and glove box, but it looks pretty stock to me. I'm guessing it's a '92 with no passenger airbag, and they just replaced the wood trim with a nicely fiberglassed gauge cluster. Pretty creative use of the space, I must say.

definitely must be a 92 since no airbag, but that can be easily molded with fiberglass and lots of sanding/body filler.

So, how would someone go about doing it? Is there any way to just close up the airbag's hole? I'm thinking about getting some zipties and drilling holes. Any better suggestions?

That looks incredibly clean however function wise for the driver how the hell are you going to watch those gauges while going WOT lol ?!

That was my initial thought, but then, how often do you really need to see the gauges once everything is set up and working properly? Some people mount them in the glove box, which is even less visible with the worse angle.

I have a gauge in my dash right there and I have no problem seeing it from the driver position.

well it has a cup holder and the 92 did not. Unless he added it .

That's an extremely small asterisk, IMO. I added the dash cup holder to my '94, and I haven't dreamed about doing anything as extensively detailed as that fiberglass work. If you have the stereo surround out already for other work, it seriously only takes a couple seconds to do.

If you are watching gauges at WOT you might be doing it wrong.

well... it would be good to have a quick glance at them.

mainly boost and wideband levels.

i'd sure as hell be looking at the wideband while going WOT. the last thing i'd want to see is a 15.0 AFR.

If you remove the airbag assy, you can detach the front pieces. They're held on with nuts. Deploy the air bag, remove it from the the metal enclosure then bolt the front (or whatever mod) back on to the just the metal enclosure. Then everything bolts right back up and looks unmolested. Take ESD precautions!

Seriously? I'd much rather disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds (or minutes), and remove the airbag intact than be hit in the face by another one. And you can make a few bucks selling it if it hasn't been deployed.

I took that for granted that you would fully discharge the system before removing the airbag assy. All this is after you take it out. Next time I'll be more thorough in description. I would never buy a used airbag - imho.

You changed your choice of words from deploy to discharge. See the difference?
