Why would you spend a ton of money on a 1J swap when the 2J out of the Lexus can be had for peanuts?

why would you get a lexus 2j for peanuts when it takes a bunch of money to make it do what the 1j does?

1jz swap is cheap if you don't have to pay people to do it for you.

^^ This, without question. That is unless there aren't budget constraints.

Although the OP is in California which complicates using the 1JZ.

Yeah, no swap for me... Will get this one fixed; may do the valves since they have to pull it apart.

I am close to having a "new car" at this point so hope to get a lot of years out of the car.

Not to thread jack, but how common are bad headgaskets on these cars? They aren't as common as on te mk3 supra are they? All the ones I've seen on here were 92-93's, did they make a change at somepoint? Sorry for the question, just wasn't sure if it was worth starting a new thread

sounds like a bunch of BS to me! stop taking it there! i seen your car.. these cars dont blow head gasgets out of no where.. sounds like they just left it to boil and now they sent you that to scare you into spending a bunch of money cause there is nothing wrong with your car.. the money they would charge you to do a head gasket would prolly be the price of a 1jz swap..

The coolant cap wasn't on at all in the video.
And the coolant will boil all on it's own if the cap is left off since it's no longer pressurized. I'd also be leery of doing the head-gasket because of just a video, but it may be that it's about time to do it anyways, but I'd still hesitate. I'm still on the stock head-gasket.
