Default Need price advice. CLEAN SC 300

Hello I have a chance to buy my father-in-law's 1995 SC 300.

I tried searching for discussions of use value but didn't find any, so apologies if this is a duplicate post

It's in beautiful shape. Black with tan leather, 58,000 miles. Southern car with service records. Nakamichi stereo, premium wheels, and pretty much all options plus having a spoiler to make it look more like a 400.

Prices seem to vary widely, and I want to be sure to give him a fair price but not overpay.

The only issue the car has is worn-out leather on driver's seat.

Any advice on value, or websites to look at to determine a fair purchase value?

Pictures would help, but 58k is a really low, most guys would go goo-goo over an SC with that kinda mileage. Whether its an Auto or Manual would also affect its value.

I'd say about $5k if its an Auto, probably about $6k+ for a Manual.

Post some pictures if you have any. If you want me to I can run the VIN through Toyota's info system while I still can and determine all the options that you've got
The mileage is spectacular for a 95 model.
I'd get some more information about the car, like previous owners, how often it was used, if it was garaged or not, if it was repainted, etc etc.
The leather on the seats is an issue with almost ALL SC's regardless of model year. Don't worry too much about it, just prevent it from getting any worse if you do buy it, or just reupholster it.

From what you've described I say offer somewhere around 4,500$ to 6,000$.

Thanks! It's an automatic and has always been garaged and well maintained.

I'll try to get some photos and the VIN asap (probably tomorrow).

Forgot to add that it's always been garaged. No repaint, no accidents. He only drove it about 3,000 miles a year, but car has been driven consistently (no major time off the road.)

Any recommendations for sourcing upholstery?

Great, sounds like a good deal. For upholstery I don't know, maybe there are some on here most likely could do something about it. I haven't gotten around to fixing my leather so I wouldn't know. Best of luck!

As far as getting it upholstered I'd take it to a local shop, I've been quoted $1200 for every piece of leather redone in the car. Well worth it if the rest of y our car is clean. $5000 sounds about right. Sounds like a great car, I wouldn't do more. It's 20 years old, even though it only has 58K things are going to go wrong just based on age.

..that or just wait for good condition seats to pop up in the classifieds here, they do from time to time.

$5000 is fair but how about the "son in law" discount.

Does he have the repair history and records?
Depending on what's been repaired recently anywhere from $4k-$6k is fair, especially if the body is in beautiful shape with that mileage.

Buy it. A rough sc will end up costing you 10k in the end

Thanks for all the assistance.
VIN is JT8JZ31C1S0028850

A few other questions.

1) he said sunroof isn't working. Is that a common trouble area? (He hasn't even checked fuse yet.)
2) Are the rims unusual or rare? He said he's never seen them on another Lexus?
3) Driver's seat needs repair. If anyone has an appropriate bottom or back covet, please let me know.

Here's an image of worn seat. Rest of the car is essentially mint condition.

Are these wheels rare, or relatively common?

The Chrome Rims are an extra option, and they appear to be in good condition as well, so that's good . Haven't had any problems with my Sunroof, not sure if anyone here has either. The seat cushion can probably be fixed, Again, don't know how. Someone's bound to have a good looking cover for reupholstery somewhere.

Also, the VIN you provided is invalid.

There we go. Your car has these options:
  • Carpeted Floor mats
  • 12-CD Changer
  • Nakamichi Premium Sound
  • Leather trim option with Memory System
  • Carpeted Trunk Mat
  • Power Sunroof with Sunshade
  • Chrome Rim Option
  • Wheel Locks (I think this is stock on Chrome wheels)

Since everything is in good condition and it has most options, Go for an asking price of 5,000 or somewhere around that. Try for the son in law discount as well
