That and you can never compare a 300 to a 400, theyre completely different beasts.

True that if you want to mod heavily for big power, the easier choice is a pre98 sc300. But the 98+ 400 comes with great power outta the box, and you can still do BPUs to increase that power and make it a real beast.
You can always make the argument that dollar for dollar, you get more power out of sc300's, rather than trying to find the limited and expensive mods for the 400, but its all about what you want. Easy power at the tip of your toes outta the box, go 98+400.

That's exactly why I assumed it was the same 5-spd auto. Everyone says the A/T SC3 is much slower than its SC4 counterpart, but the '00 SC3 I drove was surprisingly lively. Maybe the newer engines really are that much improved?

^ they really are, and the 98+ sc400's even more so. Thats why I say that its literally a night and day difference between the older ones and newer ones. Not some small barely noticeable differences. The differences slap you in the face.
