Default Few questions regarding potential purchase of SC300

Hey guys! I hope this is in the right forum section. If it's not, I apologise

Anyways, as the title states, I just have a few questions about purchasing an SC300 5 spd! From my understanding and research, I should check for oil leaks, play in shifter when in gear, check for any cracks on the interior, and rust.

Now regarding rust...are there any particular spots where I should check for any rust? I know for Hondas there are a few known places that tend to go bad very quickly lol.

Ad listed an SC300 with 170k for $4500. Edited this out, sorry folks!

I also understand that the needles tend to burn out for pre-97 model SC's so I will most likely fix IF I decide to make a purchase. Also the airbag light is on, is this anything I should be concerned about? I've read that it might be a connection problem but should it be alright otherwise?

Thanks in advance!

IMAO I'd pass on that one, for that price at least. The clear coat looks faded, interior looks kinda rough.

I was going to see if he'll go any lower than what he has posted it at...I thought it was a little too high LOL.

Clear on the roof doesn't look TOO bad...looks like it might come out with a bit of polishing compound, so I'll definitely have to check it out in person. I'll keep you guys updated after tomorrow! But thanks for the input, SC400slide

Looks like they did some upgrade to 97+ tails..

This will get locked soon because craigslist ads are no longer allowed (never were actually, but the rules weren't worded very clear so everyone followed the lead of others), but I'll add a dissenting opinion and say the price looks pretty reasonable for the mileage and condition. The seats look to be in pretty good shape, which means it's been taken care of better than most. Steering wheel and e-brake leather can be addressed without too much difficulty, and you could always swap the speedo and tach needles as a short-term fix if it drives you nuts having the speedo needle burnt out. Maybe you can get cars like that much cheaper elsewhere, but around here, the asking price would be $5500 or so.

Edit: Actually, linking to them was clearly never allowed. It was referring to them sans links, with a description of how to find the ad, that was gray area.

Woops, sorry about that. I removed the ad! Hopefully that won't get this thread locked or removed.

I'll talk to the owner and check out the condition and try to negotiate. I think the average price for these older SC's are around 2.5-3.5k in my area from what I've noticed, so I'll definitely bring that up to him as well.

just go there in person and negotiate with cash in hand. everyone can call and text an make offers. when you are there in person with cash makes a world of difference.

I don't think the owner would've negotiated..I just came back from checking the car out in person.

It was much worse than I originally thought. The paint was immaculate, it just needed to be corrected; easy fix. All the tires were dry rotted, interior leather was EXTREMELY dry and felt like it was about to crack, motor to recline seat didn't work, and a few more things.

I'm sure most of the things would have been an easy fix...however, at that asking price, I had to pass.

Thanks for all the help guys! I must say that the Lexus community extremely helpful and kind towards each other... not like some other communities I'm used to.

Cheers!

So much for my observation that the seats were in relatively good shape.

Lol! Yeah, they actually looked really good and clean from a few feet. But once you get pretty close to it you can definitely see the flaws...not to mention once you actually touch the leather.
