I've been seeing that SC on and off Craigslist for roughly a year now. Congrats in getting it. Why buy a 5 speed though if you're just gonna swap?

From the pics looks like the W58 tripod is hooked up to it.....

I still dont understand what the big deal is about buying a factory 5 speed.....regardless of swapping the engine.

What makes the difference if it was auto or 5spd....IMO the 5 spd is better for swapping anyway as you can rock the W58 on low boost and dont have to go through the hassle of converting on auto to 5spd

Anyone that has a Auto....Im sure wishes they had a 5spd

No fuss about the 5 speed. Just curious, cause it seems he's all ready to do a swap. Good luck with your build, looking forward to it.

i have a 97 5spd, and I went NA-T and kept the W58. Just makes the car better. Swapping a GTE makes it even better

Actually most of the high horsepower supra and sc guys now are going to automatics. 4l80e's and turbo 400's.

Grats on the super clean purchase! Definitely worth waiting for something as clean and mint as that.

The tripod is misleading, its actually not a w58 (he has a tripod w58 in the car already though).
take another look at the slave cylinder in that picture, see how its facing the front of the car.
That means in the picture its a R154 tripod from a soarer or chaser hooked up to the gte.
A very nice swap to drop in. having a factory 5 speed just makes it easier hook up the lines from the w58 to that r154 and it works.

easiest way to tell w58 from r154 is taking a look at that part of the transmission, one is push and one is pull so the slave cylinders and forks are arranged differently.
The rest of the transmission looks mostly the same, except the r154 is beefier/thicker.

The world needs more Manual SC's

and if the OP had bought an Auto and put just a little more work into swapping it, there would be an extra manual in this world.

NP. Your other car was clean, so i imagine this one will be just as nice, if not better. 19's fit the 97+ body perfect, and I'm running 275/30/19 tires on my 9.5 rear wheels. I don't remember what my offset is, but I'm running a 10mm hubcentric spacer all around they sit perfect. 275 series tires are great for the 9.5 width bc they sit square with the edge of the wheel. Bad pic, but this is what they look like on my car
