I plan to. Four years and counting. It won't be the first car I've had for a decade or more. I'm quite happy with it, age and all. I might get a second, newer car eventually but I enjoy this one every time I drive it.

I've had my '92 SC 400 since 1999...Jesus that's a long time. It was 15 years in June. I just haven't been able to find a suitable replacement and I love it. I was out for a walk in '92 and saw a sandstone beige metallic one parked in a doctors parking spot and knew I had to have one. It stopped me in my tracks. God help me but I still love it. I probably would have gotten rid of it a while ago if it weren't for all the help I have gotten from this sight.

I am the original buyer of my '92 SC300.

I only got to drive it for about a year when a change in jobs that had a long commute made it impractical to put that many miles on the car (not to mention it requires premium) so I "traded" it with my wife (for her 4 cyl Camry). If I was "good" she would let me drive on weekends....

In 2004, my son got a hold of it (we made him buy it from us) and he drove it until 2011 when he purchased a new car. He actually gave it back to me but for the majority of the time he had it he did not have a garage so it was outside in the elements (albeit NorCal weather but not a great way to keep these cars happy).

The interior was in excellent shape (9/10) but the exterior was heavily oxidized on the roof, several door dings, pits in the hood, but worse the A/C was out and almost every gasket and seal were bad and oil leaks were abundant. Timing belt, water pump, P/S pump, etc... have all been replaced so darn near a new car except for the engine itself.

This forum, however, showed me what was possible with this car and after about a year I made the decision to keep it and pour a whole bunch of money into fixing the motor, suspension, wheels, tires, paint, body, and sound system. I know I will NEVER get my money back but the car is not for sale since I really love having this car and all the fun reading these threads and seeing what others are doing with these cars is a great passion.

Going to the local meets has been fun, too. I am definitely out of place being the "old guy" but meeting the people that love their cars and seeing all of the mods and variations is cool to see.

The longer you keep one of these the more attached you become.....

I've owned mine for five years and probably only got one good year out of it. Most of the time it sat on the street broken down.

Here's my secret for keeping a car for a very long time:

Don't drive it every day. You learn to love a car a lot more when you spend most of your days in a bare bones daily. There is no better stress reliever than strapping yourself into a bucket seat and buckling yourself into a race harness, starting your motor, and watching all your gauges power on.

If you live in a snowy climate, don't drive it in the winter (another reason to buy a daily). And try to avoid bad weather. People can't drive in bad weather. And they cause accidents. Accidents destroy cars like ours.

Got mine in February of '05. Getting close to ten years.

Had 42,000 miles when I bought it, going to roll 110,000 in the next few weeks I'd imagine.
