Exclamation 97 sc300 5 speed black interior RARE RARE 92k somewhere in CA

Ok so this is coming out of left field. I am a buyer for several car dealerships in the Atlanta area. I have an email alert set up every time there is a sc300 coming up for auction anywhere in the United States. I checked my email this morning, there was a notification of 97 sc300 in CA for sale this morning at 9:30, and I thought " its not like its going to be a stick". Boy was i wrong, today in Oxnard, CA. There was a 1997 Sc300 with black interior sold at auction!!! Original 5 speed,. Talk about RARE! I have no idea who bought it, or what it went for , i just found it to be interesting.

I know this is an unusual post but I have a passion for cars, so do you. I thought it would be really neat if someone in that area found the vehicle listed for sale and bought it. I know there were 120 5speed 97's produced for US sales. I wonder how many of those 5speeds came with black interior?

Should've posted the link for us. Curious to see how much it goes for.

All Platinum Metallics have black interiors regardless of year. But I too, am curious as to how much it went for and the condition it was actually in.

Was this a public auction or a dealer auction? That would dramatically affect the dollar amount it went for, I would think.

Nice find, OP! I do wonder what the auction price was, given it was one of the 120.

It was a dealer only auto auction . It's always hard to speculate what it actually brought . Seems like it was in great shape one owner no accidents . Ca car

The 'hub-bub' is that manual cars are better preforming. Less drivetrain loss in horsepower, better shifts (rather than the sluggish autotragic), and more of a driver oriented car. The driver controls the car far more, deciding when to shift, when to stay in gear to sustain a torque level, downshift to slow down (or to speed up depending on what you want to do), etc etc..

^^ This. Unless you compare the 5-speed transmission to only the very newest bleeding edge dual-clutch transmissions (which still isn't the same experience even if they shift faster than we can) it's worlds better than the conventional automatic. The 5-speed SC offers a much more involving driver experience than the automatic versions, not to mention far less power loss. Stock 92-97 SC300 5-speeds are also slightly faster than all stock SC400's except for the 290hp 98-2000 SC400.

ClassicSC3 -- The auto and manual cars themselves from all production years are the same apart from the transmissions, rear end ratios and M/T specific ECUs (and no TRAC available on 5-speeds). Although personally I stick to the argument that for an NA only car the 4.27 Automatic ratio is a better match for a 5-speed SC300 even if the highway revs are higher. Also, 93.5-96 Supra NA 5-speeds came that way from the factory (4.27 ratio) with the same drivetrain.
