Door panels: Rebuild or Custom?

I wouldn't be able to get used to that window switch being backwards...
Pretty cool work so far. I had both of my panels off to do speakers and window tint. Man, what kind of plastic did they build these with? Most of it was crumbled or cracked. I JB-welded what I couldn't fix with big flat washers.

Lol took me a while to get use to the switches but I liked if after a while. But that plastic is horrible. I wanted to repair what I could but it was too far gone. I'm hoping to be done with this panel this week. Weather has been pretty bad so I couldn't do much.

It would suck to extend the wiring, but what about building the switches into the center console area, replacing the cupholder? (Look to the Miata's power window switches as an example.) Your partial switch setup should fit that area pretty well. And for bonus coolness, building a cupholder or three into some door contours.

Lol I had actually thought about that. Extending the harness wouldn't be too much work. Might be aiming to attempt later. My Mr2 had it's switches in the middle too. Haven't thought of a cup holder idea lol. some cool stuff I can probably make. My next project is to finish my custom head lamps.

custom stuff is the bomb. these interiors are old and broken, people need to start doing more custom things and cutting them up and remaking them with fiberglass. good job on this, i'm gonna do something like this as well just don't know what yet. for now i'm installing a 3rd push start button which is harder than i thought to make it stay in place. gonna probably just fiberglass some sort of mount into the panel piece and hold the button to it with a screw.

You can go to a hardware store and look at things you can. Use to mold the mount in. I would like to do a push start myself this year. Looks awesome. But yeah we need to set changing up the interiors a bit in my opinion.

the button mechanism itself is held in with a screw so i could take out if the wires were to come loose or something for easy fixing. but it sits nicely against the main bottom interior piece and is very snug and clicks nicely. i'm really happy how it came out. next up will be painting the interior. oh and i also stuck a spare cup holder in the center compartment.
2 screws holding it in, very snug and easy for removal
much neater, now all my little things and coins are separate.
