I'd find it hard to believe they preserved the structural integrity in the conversion but dare I say it does look almost factory. I rather like the overly long rear deck. The rear seats can't be preserved well and the folding mechanism would only be able to bunch up where the rear package tray used to be-- meaning no subwoofer or rear speakers any longer. Then there is the upright gas tank getting in the way of anything more complicated. The SC/Soarer was never going to be made into a convertible from the factory like the Infiniti M30.

Still... I kind of like it and generally I don't like most convertibles made past 1970. I'd like to know how it was done on this car. Sacrilege? Sure... but it doesn't look half bad.

I just wouldn't trust the safety of it on a highway.

You could still have the rear deck speakers and sub, they would just be a bit muffled with the top down. The Miata is configured very similarly. The folded top sits up a bit over the body lines and uses a boot to make it look seamless, if you want to go to the trouble to put it on. The SC's speaker grills and mounts seem sturdy enough to keep the weight of the top from damaging the speakers. The fuel tank positioning is very similar, too.

It would be interesting to see if the longer top needed for the SC, and its bigger rear window, can fold up small enough to fit entirely within the rear deck or if it covers the back seats.

I agree about structural integrity concerns, though. Unless they added a bunch of bracing, at least some of which would probably have to be throughout the doors, rear fenders, and dash, I would be nervous about safety.

There was quite a bit of talk of those convertibles right here on this site ten years ago... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...300-400-a.html

Well didn't want to make a new thread since it relates to this one and this is fairly recent. Went on that auction site and found a very interesting sc when I searched sc400...

The irony is, it's probably the slowest SC out there (barring ones that are running poorly or not at all), with all that extra bodywork and roadster drag.

I seriously saw this car a little while ago at the 78 freeway being driven by an elderly man with the top down.

Lol that would be a site. Funny thing is he actually doesn't even have a top. Just read through the listing that ended haha. It says v8 and he was saying how they last to 300-400k so I guess it just has a 1uz.
