Default Best Cosmetic Door trim mods?

I was just wondering what, if any of you have done with the exterior pillar on your SC's. Mine are starting to show some AZ skin cancer and I'm ready to fix them.

Did you guys wrap yours? Replace them? Paint them? Share!

This is the piece I am referring to:

I had one side in decent shape and one side in poor shape, so I started with the bad one and stripped the paint down to see how it would look with polished metal. I figured it couldn't be any worse than it was... I was happy enough with the result, I ended up doing the same to the other side.

In your case, it might not look quite as good, as shiny tends to work best in offsetting a darker color. It would be pretty similar to your silver, and might stand out too much against the window tint which is the dark offset in your case.

I say you repaint it the original color. I love the original color of the door pillars on our SCs.

Do you have a color code for the factory paint Luxor?

I do not think that there is a color code for the pillar. Whatever color it is, it has a pearl metallic finish to it.

Those of you who "wrapped" yours with CF, did you just cover the trim piece with the sticker or actually remove it and wrap the edges around the back so it won't peel?

When I had the car repainted last year I asked the shop to do the B pillars since they had pits and some flecks showing the metal underneath. They pointed out that the pillars are not painted but on a '92 they are a plastic coating.

The recommendation was to use a faux carbon fiber looking wrap material with an adhesive backer. At first I did not like the idea since I liked the high gloss black appearance but once applied it looked good. Better, with this material finger prints do not show as was often the case with the previous finish.

The wrap material is really inexpensive but it does take some patience and skills to cut and apply....

Don't have a handy close up but here is how it looks:

i didn't take it off, i just stuck the wrap inside the gaps and wrapped around the edge and shoved it inside another gap on the outside edge of the door. when you look at it, it makes perfect sense to shove it in there.

On my 95' Auto, I purchased some sticky back, flat black panel for it. On my 95' 5 speed, just last night I flat black plastidipped all of the gold trim around the window and that panel. Both look GREAT! Especially the blacked out window trim. Cant wait to tint the heck out of it!

I've tried painting mine, and the paint is starting to come off after 4 years. It's because the metal is stainless steel and paint wouldn't adhere to it. I would recommend vinyl wrapping, you're own preference color/design. It would last longer I think. It would be great though if somebody can find out what the original paint is so a lot of us who want it can bring it back to that stock look.

After weighing my options for a while I decided to try
this this
gloss metallic black vinyl. It looked very close in the pictures on Amazon so I bought a 5x1 roll figuring I'd only be out $20 if it wasn't a close match to the original B pillar look.

The wrap finally arrived today and I am quite happy with the look. This is a perfect match to the factory metallic pillars. Hope to apply the vinyl soon and get some comparison photos up.
