Default headlight fitment

I successfully pulled my driver side headlight and did the full restore per O.L.T. diy. For some reason I can't get the lead light to fit back into the body snuggly. When I originally removed the headlight assembly it was very tight and fit perfectly in the body. Now after quite a bit of effort the assembly has about an 1/8 inch gap on the outside edge. I have tightened the two nuts inside the fender tight but I'm wondering if I should go at them hard and see if that pulls the light into place. I don't want to break the assembly.

Don't continue to tighten the nuts. Remove the lights and start over again. The lights should fit perfect before anything is tightened. Check to see if any of the wiring is preventing the headlights from seating properly.

I've only taken out the passenger side headlight, but I noticed on that and the driver's side tail light that it's easy to not line the bolts up perfectly. It takes a bit of force to get them all into their respective holes and not catching all cockeyed on the threads.

A 1/8" gap isn't much, though. Maybe some of the gasket got pulled away and bunched up, and is keeping it from going in further?

Hi,

I'm assisting my son with his 1992 SC400. We have successfully removed, disassembled, and cleaned the lights. They were a bit of a pain to get out.

Now they're even more of a pain to get back in. The bolts are lined up and through the fender.

However the light doesn't fit properly - there's a gap where the light should be flush with the body work.

We have removed the lights and tried to get them properly aligned and seated several times with no luck. Cant' see any wires or anything preventing them from seating properly.

The upper attachment on the rad support is aligned as are the two bolts. But the light isn't properly seated.

Any advice? Trying again and again is getting tiresome.

If the light was properly seated before you took it apart, and you're sure the mounts are all in all the way, then my assumption would have to be it got warped while being worked on.
