Leather Repair - Results Blew Me Away!
Check out the before and after photos. A company called Fibrenew (no affiliation) came by my house and did this for me. The steering wheels was well worn and the driver's seat bolster needed attention. Cost me $185. A whole lot better than new leather for a fraction of the price!

The process generally involves using a fiberglass looking backing piece to slide under the leather and patch the hole, then some sort of filler/glue material to bond it all together. The real mystery is how he blended the color so well and left behind no dimples from the patched surfaces.

There was no patching done on the bolster. He sanded the area 1st, then cleaned it and then applied some sort of leather filler compound. He let it dry and sanded it again. Considerable time was spent getting the right shade of color. He did this by removing the headrest and using it as a baseline for getting the correct color. Once he had a color match, he airbrushed the area with the color. After drying, he noticed a couple of places where he needed to add filler, sanded, airbrushed again.
He called me out for inspection. Once approved by me he put some sort of sealer on it and was finished. You wait 15 minutes and you can use it. You treat it just like you would any leather. I'm sold - saved me a bunch of coin. As soon as I get some other things settled, I'm going to pull the door cards and let him fix the split at the top of the panel that seems to happen to all these cars.
