Question Random holes in rear interior panels

I have a 92 sc400 and have been trying to think of a possible reason that my rear panels have circular holes drilled through the middle of them. My first thought was the old owner might have had a kind of harness bar going through it, because the car has hks bucket seats, but it has a floor harness bar that bolts to the frame. Aside from the possibility of a harness bar going through, what other purposes could the holes serve? i dont see how a harness bar or brace going through them would mount or how you would take the rear panels off if you needed to access behind it. could a brace that went through it have made much of a difference if any at all? sorry for no pictures, the car is in the shop right now getting the timing belt/water pump done. shoulda snapped some before it went in i might have one of the interior where the holes are visible however, if i have one ill post it up.

this is the only photo i have of the interior right now, i used paint to kinda highlight where the holes are, the red dot is exactly where the hole is, the hole is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. the yellow circle is to show what panel I'm talking about.

Where the holes are in rear panels. hole is in drivers side panel as well

Errant bullet?

Maybe someone was trying the direct route to the fuel pump ecu, then realized it's on the drivers side...

Come to think of it, now that you mention tweeters, that could be possible. I noticed the factory amp was bypassed and the door speakers are infinity. And there was paperwork in the car from when they were working on the fuel pump ecu. So either of those is probable. I'll post better pictures when i get the car back so i can show you guys. I might try to fill the holes with tweeters than so i dont have to get panels just yet

Id prefer either gray or black to match everything else in the car. But thanks for the offer though

Maybe the previous owner put tweeters/speakers in the panel?

Those look a lot smaller than your estimated 2-3 inches, but then again I'm looking at Titanic sized pictures on a phone..

Tweeters do seem to make the most sense. If they had component speakers in the rear deck, that's a fairly convenient spot to mount the tweeters, as the wire pass-throughs to the trunk are close by. You'd think they would have opted for a higher position closer to ear level, but there may have been insufficient mounting depth higher up. In which case, why go with components at all?

Well I got my car back and I started taking it apart and cleaning everything. I took the rear panels off and behind both of them were connectors that went into the factory harness but I'm unsure what they go to. I haven't seen them in any of my previous sc's. I held a tweeter up to the holes in the panels and the fit pretty good and don't look half bad. But its not really my style but I guess it covers up the holes. I don't know how to post pics from my phone so as soon as my laptop charges I will post them up.
