2017 Classic Plates for 92
For those of us who have a 92 SC300 or SC400....it will be 25 yrs old in 2017....
Are you going to rock a classic car plate in 3 yrs.....I know it is far ahead...put I think it would be awesome to rock classic plates...
I know in PA all you need is a physical inspection....and emissions are exempt......Perfect time to go straight piped.

Probably not, I've had this car for two years and 3 months... it's the longest I've ever had a car for... I'd like to have this for another 2 years and 5 months... but lol that's unlikely,
If I do have it that long I probably still wouldn't though, because don't classic plates mean you can only drive it on the weekends?

You've given us something "neat" to think on. Thanks!
The deal is 99% of folks who see my 92 SC 400 "the Purple Bullet" don't have a clue if its a couple of yrs old or actually a couple of decades old. I don't think I want to tip them off. But thats how timeless & visionary the Japanese built these cars. They must have been @ the top of their game.
The electric windows still go up & down, the mirrors move, THE light in the glove compartment comes on, Amazing!
Now you've got me hoping I can get away from this crazy smog crap out here in Calif. Thanks 4 ur thread:thumb up: Barbary

With the emission standards getting tougher and tougher in California it may be hard to keep my '92 on the road into 2017. Since I have greatly modified the look with the body kit, lowering, 19 inch wheels, etc. not sure having a "Classic" designation even applies.
I like the look of our modified cars over the stock versions and it was this forum that inspired me to keep the car and evolve it into the look it has now. I was at a Lexus dealership yesterday (looking for a used LS460 for my wife) and I drew a crowd as everyone came around to see it..... No one believed it was '92 (but with all of the improvements, repairs, and upgrades one could argue it technically is not....).

If I had the option in California I would. No emissions exemptions here but hopefully they do have a plate that says "classic", "historic" or "antique". I had a car with classic plates in Florida a while back and loved it. They even made the two center numbers they issued me correspond to the year of the car.

im lookin forward to getting historic plates but the car is a bit expensive to maintain. im not sure ill have it until then, my state does not have emissions on regular cars so the only upside is the decreased insurance.

Must use all oem parts here. Upgraded wheels or tinted windows will disqualify you from tags and the police will ticket you if you change it after inspection. Other than that yep exept from inspection.

i'm happy in illinois there are no laws or regulations about anything on older cars. it's the only thing good here lol. i'll definitely be getting some classic plates if i still have the car, saving up for an FRS!!!

The state of Maryland offers "historic" plates for vehicles that are 20 years old. But then again Maryland is one of the best states for emissions testing. You only have to get your car inspected once when you first buy it...after that it's game on. Some rural areas don't have emissions testing in the state of Virginia. I was able to registered my vehicle in a rural area about 2 hours west of my house which allowed me to keep valid tags on the car. I didn't want to get a bunch of tickets since the car hasn't moved and has been parked on the street since February.
